I don't buy them for that purpose but they do give me peace or help me cope, even finding $4 toys on rough days can turn it somewhat better |

As toy nerds, we tend to overthink this. You never see "regular guys" posting, "Sometimes I wonder if I spend too much time watching sports. I really spend too much money on tickets, and I worry that I spend too many weekends at BW3 buying beer and wings when I could be putting that time and money to better use".
Don't overthink it. If you love it and you can afford it, do it. If you can't afford it, get more money, and do it. |

Believe in the Marie kondo “if it brings you joy.” I eliminate d most of the collection as hasbro is notoriously great at repainting the same figures over and over to death. Now I collect one line there are 20-30 characters I want. Currently up to 15. If I hit this number great if not happy with the 15 I got and I can display them in an organized manner. But like everyone says it’s a personal preference thing. If your collection is overwhelming and you aren’t enjoying it then maybe purging some of it isn’t a bad idea.

Thanks everyone, it's fun going over your comments, I think I'm fine now, was just having one of those OCD moments...I don't intend to get rid I things like I said but just wondering if I overdid it.
There's some truth to society in how one thing is fine but something else is unusual, nobody is put off if you spend every cent going to sporting events or BW3 but telling something you collect toys can be hit or miss from "oh that's cool" to "ehh, you're strange." |

One of the best feelings I've had with collecting, is when I got rid of stuff.
There are gems, and there's filler. Classified has filler, Modern Era had filler (sometimes a TON of filler). No nutrition in those filler calories. This is an Anti-Completism PSA .

That's one issue I don't have, I only pick up what I like, I only buy one of things so there is not much filler in my collection...the only line I own every single item of is the ME retro collection, I own every DTC release too except for the collector club exclusives

As someone who can no longer work (Since 2018) for a couple of reasons, I am very lucky and blessed that my wife supports me and we make enough for me to still collect. That said I have been going to far a bit this year, so Im pulling back as best I can now.

I feel like 'normal' adult men (in the eyes of the culture) should be into buying ATVs, Boats, Motorcycles, Sports Cars, RVs, Tools, etc. You know - the bravado-dude stuff. I've never been like that. I have no problem sharing my toy collecting hobby with my friends. They either understand or don't. Doesn't really bother me.
I've always been reserved in my overall budget of collecting too. My wife, son and I have always lived with the mindset of, "we'd rather spend money DOING things than BUYING things". So - we travel a bunch, go to a lot of Nascar races, have lots of pets and chickens and fun old house in the country. It's all about what you like in life. Don't let other people's expectations or assumptions dictate what you do or feel. |

There's times in life I was out doing things instead of buying things but what happens when you can't do things or don't have things to do especially when it relies on others? For me it's both I guess, when I'm not out doing much, picking up my joes from the post office or finding things in stores occasionally is both doing/buying things

My ex hated the fact that I collected GI Joes. I began the night our son was born, stopping by TRU to buy a Tonka Dump Truck.Never made it past the action figure aisle. This was in 1988... I continued collecting until the end of the GIJCC FSS line. Now I am selling off that massive collection and collecting the Classified series. I also collected and maintained my Sigma 6 collection. This is all rooted in nostalgia. I was born in 1963, I am a 12" Joe kid (especially Adventure Team). My new wife is supportive, because she respects and cares about me. If it makes me happy.... then DO IT. Don't let others judge you. Be true to your self. Enjoy your toys, no matter how big or small.
