The recent death of the Iron Sheik and his great Rivalry with Sgt Slaughter in the 80s got me reminiscing. The Sheik was a fantastic larger than life villain in the cartoony world of wrestling and a fantastic villain for Sgt Slaughter.
As a kid I would have loved to have had a 3 3/4th action figure of Cobra branded Iron Shiek to fight against Sarge and the Joes back then, though Mindbender makes a decent Sheik stand in. So what other wrestlers past and present do you think would have made great Joe's or Cobras? |

Retro, the answer is easily Hulk Hogan, they were trying to get Rocky as well. Throw in Mr. T while you're at it and it covers all sorts of 80s action pop culture.
But today, I just don't know that we'll ever get a 'real life' GIJoe like Sarge again. He worked that deal out with Hasbro on his own and annoyed Vince McMahon if I recall correctly. And Sarge hit this perfect blend military fantasy/reality/pro wrestling (maintain kayfabe) that he was able to sell it. I'm sure plenty of today's stars, sure are in great condition, probably could hack it as Joes, but does Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Cody fit in with GIJoe the way Sarge does? It'd feel more like Scooby Doo crossing over with the Harlem Globetrotters. |

Hacksaw Jim Duggin.
Not only is he a flag totin' American, he's a ready made rival for the dreaknoks. In fact, now that I think about it, I'm ready to see Hacksaw, Hillbilly Jim and Junkyard Dog take on the Dreadnoks right now.

Big Van Vader, with his crazy mastodon mask, would have fit right in with 1987-era Cobra.

The Outsiders Scott Hall and Kevin Nash bad guys with Cobra. In fact the Lou Kang Mortal Kombat 0-ring action figure I use for Scott Hall, it looks like him I just penciled in some chest hair and stubble. Haven't found a Nash yet.

Kurt Angle and Sid Justice could be heroes or villains. Torrie Wilson (could've been Cover Girl). Stone Cold could've been Wild Bill's beer-swillin' buddy who got Quick-Kick and Lifeline in headlocks and wouldn't let them go. Ron Simmons as Alpine, because I can hear Alpine using Ron's catchphrase. Big Boss Man definitely would've been Cobra. Million Dollar Man could've loaned CC $$.

Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat would have been a good choice back in the day. A Four Horsemen Cobra set would have been awesome, they could be a specialized Crimson Guard team. I could see Eddie Guerrero or Gunther and Imperium being great Cobras or Joes.
