How would you improve the live action G.I Joes movies and/ or animated movies?
Well, how would you? |

I'd forget trying to set it modern which is touchy, set it in the 80's with genuine stunts, explosions, blank-guns, well known but not overused cast, the plot would be simple just the Joes stopping Cobra's shenanigans that goes to exotic locations

I would have them looking to find the Lost Ark in Jurassic Park. This way they can fight bad guys and dinosaurs at the same time.

I would stick to the comics as closely as possible and makes changes when it's necessary. Here are some broad outlines of how I'd do first installments for Snake Eyes solo film and GI Joe ensemble films.
For a Snake Eyes origin story I would make Snake Eyes, Tomisaburo Arashikage (Storm Shadow), Lonzo R. Wilkinson (Sgt. Stalker), & Wade Collins Afghanistan war veterans from the Ranger Corps and have them run into the Red Shadows while overseas and bring in Baron Ironblood who vows revenge on Snake Eyes & co. afterwards. A few years later Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Stalker, and Wade arrive home from combat. Snake Eyes's family is killed by Dan, Cobra Commander's brother, and when Storm Shadow learns of this news he brings Snake into the Arashikage clan for training. While in Tokyo Snake spots Dan and starts engaging in vigilante justice for his family and learns of a conspiracy that involves his past with the Red Shadows in Afghanistan and his family was killed in act of vengeance from the former Baron Ironblood. He learns that the next targets are him and Storm Shadow. Snake Eyes informs Storm Shadow that their past in Afghanistan is coming back to bite them. Upon further investigation they notice that Dan is part of an arms trafficking operation in Tokyo. They spot James McCullen XXIV (Destro) & Anastasia DeCobray (The Baroness) running the operation and learn of COBRA. Shortly after they meet General Clayton M. Abernathy (General Hawk) and Shana M. O'Hara (Scarlett) who are there to keep tabs on the COBRA operation in Tokyo. Zartan infiltrates the Arashikage Clan to complete his mission to kill Snake Eyes. He disguises himself as Storm Shadow and steels Storm Shadow's bow & arrow and kills the Hard Master. Snake Eyes spots this and pursues Zartan thinking he's Storm Shadow. They fight Storm Shadow witnesses this and follows Snake Eyes and Zartan to clear his name. Eventually, Snake Eyes catches Zartan they fight and meet the Faceless Master and reveals that the Soft Master was killed in an explosion. Then the Faceless Master reveals he is Firefly and he is working for COBRA to kill Snake Eyes, and orders "Storm Shadow" to finish Snake Eyes. Snake Eyes triumphs and notices Firefly disappeared and Zartan fled before Snake Eyes could learn the truth. Storm Shadow is exiled because the Arashikage clan believes he killed the Hard Master. Storm Shadow now exiled begins to pursue Zartan to clear his name. Snake Eyes joins GI Joe to track down Firefly and apprehend him. Snake Eyes reunites with Stalker who informs him that Baron Ironblood took up a new alias, Cobra Commander, and he's in charge of COBRA. Snake Eyes and the Joes find Firefly in a Tokyo airfield prepping to kill Wade Collins. Snake Eyes confronts Firefly and they fight. Snake Eyes defeats Firefly, but one of Firefly's explosives goes off on Snake Eyes. The Joes treat Snake Eyes and learn that he can never speak again. End credits scene of Storm Shadow meeting the Baroness and Destro to join COBRA, his motives are to get even with Zartan, but he keeps that a secret. After joining, Cobra Commander arrives to congratulate and welcome Storm Shadow to COBRA. For an ensemble GI Joe film I would have First Sergeant Conrad S. Hauser (Duke), Warrant Officer Dashiell R. Faireborn (Flint), Staff Sergeant Marvin F. Hinton (Roadblock) and Staff Sergeant Alison R. Hart-Burnett (Lady Jaye) as Special Forces soldiers in Iraq pursuing Michael Monk (Mad Monk) after he was dishonorably discharged from the Special Forces for killing civilians and was on the run to escape justice. Monk discovers a COBRA base in Iraq and seeks refuge there. Duke, Flint, and Roadblock find Monk in the COBRA facility and they storm it to catch Monk. Monk escapes with a few COBRA Soldiers. Duke, Flint, and Roadblock investigate the base and see documents on the MASS Device and its capabilities. Duke documents this in an intelligence report for the Special Forces and that report is eventually sent to General Lawrence J. Flagg who decides to recruit Duke into GI Joe because he thinks Duke can offer valuable intelligence on the MASS Device. Meanwhile, Cobra Commander, James McCullen XXIV (Destro), & Anastasia DeCobray (The Baroness) are deciding on whether or not they should recruit Mad Monk into COBRA. Mad Monk convinces them to recruit him because he has a vendetta against the Special Forces and will do anything to destroy them. Flagg meets Duke and shows takes him to the Pit in Utah where the top secret counterterrorism agency GI Joe is. In Utah, Duke meets General Clayton M. Abernathy (General Hawk), Sergeant Shana M. O'Hara (Scarlett) Sergeant Lonzo R. Wilkinson (Sgt. Stalker), Command Sergeant Major Wayne R. Sneeden (Beach Head), and Snake Eyes who debrief him on the mission of GI Joe. Duke then shares with the Joes what he knows about the MASS Device. After being formally recruited into GI Joe, Duke vouches to recruit Roadblock, Flint, and Lady Jaye because they can be valuable assets in GI Joe. They begin to storm COBRA facilities to figure out more about the MASS Device until the learn of a plan to use it in New York. The Joes head to New York in search of the MASS Device and battle COBRA forces lead by Destro & The Baroness. In New York, Duke meets Mad Monk again learns that he was recruited into COBRA. General Flagg is overseeing the mission and soon finds himself in the crosshairs of Sebastian Bludd (Major Bludd). Snake Eyes notices that Major Bludd is going to kill General Flagg and makes an effort to stop Bludd. However, Snake Eyes is too late and Bludd kills Flagg. Snake still takes out Flagg afterwards. Destro decides to test the MASS Device and has Scrap-Iron & Firefly teleport a powerful nonnuclear bomb into New York to go off. The Bomb goes off killing thousands of New Yorkers. This loss leaves the Joes in their lowest point. General Hawk takes Flagg's position and begins to plan to sabotage the MASS Device. The gather intelligence on Destro and learn that he is James McCullen XXIV CEO of MARS Industries who owns a castle in Scotland. They deduce that the MASS Device must be located in Castle Destro. Hawk sets up two teams an infiltration team to destroy the MASS Device and an assault team to take Cobra Commander, Destro, The Baroness, Firefly, Scrap-Iron, and Mad Monk. The infiltration unit is lead by Duke and consists of Beach Head, Stalker, Scarlett, and Snake Eyes. The assault unit is lead by Flint who is accompanied by Roadblock and Lady Jaye who lead units of Green Shirts to storm Castle Destro. The infiltration unit breaks into Castle Destro and begins to search for the MASS Device. Scarlett fights the Baroness, Beach Head runs into Firefly, Snake Eyes fights Storm Shadow(Tomisaburo Arashikage), and Stalker takes out Destro all while searching for the MASS Device. Duke finds the MASS Device and it is controlled by Mad Monk who plans to use it to teleport an explosive into Fort Bragg, North Carolina to get revenge for his dishonorable discharge. Duke takes out Mad Monk and attaches an explosive to the MASS Device then signals to Flint and the assault team. Flint, Jaye, Roadblock, and their Green Shirts storm Castle Destro and fight hordes of COBRA Soldiers and Iron Grenadiers. Flint, Roadblock, and Lady Jaye fight Scrap Iron, Darklon, and Mistress Armada (Lilian Osborne) while storming Castle Destro. After all the COBRAs are rounded up the Joes do one last sweep for Cobra Commander who is nowhere to be found. The Joes take the COBRAs to a top secret prison where they question the whereabouts of Cobra Commander and plot his capture, end of film. An end credits scene shows Doctor Mindbender talking to Cobra Commander who then goes into a freezer with DNA samples of Julius Caeser, Genghis Kahn, and Hannibal for Project Serpentor. These are just some ideas for how I'd do these two respective types of GI Joe films. |

Live action, I'd do Rise of Cobra but make the characters look like the characters they're supposed to be and scrap all the Rex/Ana/Duke stuff. Just make Baroness a villainess Duke has a thing for and The Doctor a mysterious dude with unknown origins who eventually takes over as CC.
Animated, I'd scrap The Movie entirely and do a Cobra Civil War story.

Make Snakes Eyes a background character. Rise, Retaliation, and Resolute focused too much on the Snake Eyes backstory to the detriment of the main plot.

I would start it off with a short mission, like how James Bond movies starts. This way you can cameo more joes and then it goes right into the cartoon theme (modern but mostly the same) music and then the movie starts. That music can't help but get you pumped.
Keep it to a a fairly small group of Joes and Cobras but show others. No origin. That Cobra is a terrorist org is enough. They have to have individual uniforms. The RAH 1 would be a good story with some moderizations. Keep it simple. I would keep it that GI Joe is top secret as well. |

Here's how Hollywood could get a clue on how to do a proper GI Joe live action movie that will satisfy fans as well as bring in new fans...look to GI Joe fan films.
If you look at any one of the many GI Joe fan films available online made by amateur filmmakers whom are actual fans who know and love the property, you will see the love, respect, and tribute shown for the entire property in their creation. They may not be perfect but as a GI Joe fan, every time I've watched a GI Joe fan film, I never once felt like my time was wasted. I felt the love and respect. However watching every GI Joe film made by Hollywood, I felt disdain and disrespect, like they just don't give a fuck whatsoever. I'd rather watch a GI Joe fan film made on a shoestring budget from hardworking men and women who know, love, and respect the source material than some multi-million dollar cinematic abortion created by those whom don't know or don't care about it. Hollywood will continue to make horrible GI Joe films until they give proper respect to the source material and to the loyal fans whom have made it the success it has been for over 40 years...
