Their foundations arent hollow like a basement. They're solid blocks of concrete and metal grids of rebar and metal posts and all kinds of heavy stuff to make one big solid slab.

Even buildings with parking garages under them their foundations under the garages are that mess i said above and then there's an incredible amount of engineering to have a parking facility under a building with a whole bunch of floors it has to hold up.

It's not impossible to have basements here, just not at all common because for what it would take to make one.

Yeah, I imagine it would be more expensive to put a basement in your home in Florida than it would be in other states.
