I think you've got a pretty solid point there. Particularly when you factor in what a non-presence Snake Eyes was in the Sunbow series and how much of the fandom associates *that* with their memories of A Real American Hero moreso than they do Snake Eyes eating an everlasting invincibility star in the comics.

And, to mingle theories ... Has anyone ever seen Snake-Eyes and Zandar in the same comic book panel? I'll float the idea that SE's twin didn't really die, but became Zarana, and Zartan hates them because they didn't idolize their big brother and he's jealous. Hahahaha

Even moreso when Storm Shadow switched sides.

Haha, true! And I would read every page of it if the art was good. That's part of the fun of headcanon. Today it can be this, yesterday it was that. Tomorrow it's both. But, put a bar code on it and it's real.
The artwork had gone wonky by then, but I still have some bagged issues that included "live action" cards. SE did feature in some great stories, but by his third outfit change I was over the Arashikage debacle. Yes. That side-story in Resolute was annoying and then how he came back in the last five minutes, killing Cobras and taking co-lead alongside Duke after the rest of the team had done all the work of getting them to Springfield. |

The "gimp" suit was a bit odd. I wonder if, despite the bright colors, that's why we saw a bit of course-correction in the design of v4 SE which seems like more of a hybrid.
I preferred that to just the whole show being SE-centric. Resolute was actually able to capture the "team" aspect that made ARAH work. Might be why the fans dug it, but Hasbro treated it like "meh," letting Cartoon Network fuck up the airing schedule with random shorts at different times, vs. having it air as a movie. To me, this is still the best SE: https://www.yojoe.com/action/08/snakeeyes35.shtml The Joes needed an arctic base. |

I remember being stoked finding that version on the pegs at TRU, w/the Kwinn nod, and picking him up. While absolutely collecting them, I wasn't following the ME figures as closely (show/con announcements, etc.), so the releases were always a surprise - like the good ol' days.

Those "coming soon" explosions with MOS descriptions on the back of the cards sure showed how fun packaging can be. Let our imaginations run wild. A shame that concept's lost on Hasbro now.

I do remember how cool it was when the 25th line debuted that Hasbro brought back the "COMING SOON!" cardback explosions and it was fun trying to figure out whose silhouettes were in those boxes.
If they implemented that with their Classified reveals during the streams, but didn't actually say who was coming but just showed the silhouette of the character and gave us a month or so to figure who they are before showing the renders and allowing us to make the pre-orders. That type of fan engagement really helps a line remain popular with the fans a lot.
