I had a few but it was just kind of mildly interesting until I got #21 in a Toys R Us 3 pack. I flipped through it on the way home, and it was so good I didn't even realize there was no dialogue at first. I was in probably 4th maybe 5th grade, and I was hooked, bad.
It was the first Marvel comic I bought monthly after that. We didn't have a legit comic store nearby and my mom wouldn't let me subscribe, so I'd go to B Dalton or Waldenbooks at the mall every month and pick it up. Around 7th grade I stopped reading it, then started up again with issue 84 a year or two later. |

I was in it from the beginning... issue #1. I collected the entire Marvel run, over it's life, although I didn't have all the issues at one time, as I had been trading away previous issues while I kept collecting the recent ones. I don't have any of the issues, anymore... but I did sell issue #1 for about 150 dollars almost 20 years ago.

I was here for ARAH #1 in the jumbo edition. Read it long after the covers and the first/last few pages fell off. Hate that I didn't keep it.

Yearbook 2 with the Oktober Guard. That full page with the OG 8-wheel transport and the 6-wheel buggy is just awesome. That was the issue that really made me a fan of the OGs!
Other than that, issue 21 "Cobra Commander Escapes," mostly because of the art. I think the artist also worked on the cartoons. Jason |

Issue 7. I had Larry Hama sign it even though it is beat up after numerous readings.
I think that might have been my first comic ever. Given that I went to college with the goal of writing comics and have since achieved that, I think that issue is a pretty noteworthy piece of my personal history. |

I started reading Battle Action Force in early 1984. Read that through the Red Shadows period and the transition to Cobra as the bad guys. Still have a lot of love for that continuity.
Later I read the Marvel UK Action Force weekly for all 50 issues. Liked the reprints of the Hama stories. Baroness gunning down Storm Shadow in the final issue was a tough one and I think part of my childhood ended that day. I later got some of the UK Transformers comics that continued the Hama story, but checked out with Cobra Commander's death as it wasn't the same. Later I found a local comic store that sold all US comics. Well all except GI Joe as the owner said "he didn't want to glorify war". He seemed fine with the violence of 90s comics! So first actual Joe comic was #95 when I found a bookstore that got some US comics. Read for four or five issues before forgetting about GI Joe until the DDP series. |

My first G.I. Joe comic book was one of those 1975 Adventures of G.I. Joe comics by Peter Pan Records. Because I got them all at mostly the same time, I cannot remember which one I read first.
My next G.I. Joe comic after those was not until 1982 with Marvel Comics G.I. Joe A Real American Hero issue 1.

Same. The oversized "Treasury Edition" of issue #1 was my first. I actually still have mine. It's in really bad shape from countless re-readings over the years. Print and color faded, paper yellowed, edges tattered, a couple of pages fell out and are just sitting inside now - but I love it and will never give it up.

Joe 135. The start of the "Scarlett is a traitor!" arc. I ate that shit up. And then it went into the Transformers Gen 2 crossoever, and I ate that up too. I was crushed when the series ended.
