Other things that will make you feel old:

Time between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace = 16 years.
Time between Revenge of the Sith and now = 18 years.

Time between Eagles "last album" (The Long Run - 1979) and their reunion = 14 years.
Time between the their real last album (Long Road Out Of Eden - 2008) and now = 15 years.

Obama became president more than 14 years ago.

The US invaded Iraq 20 years ago - as part of the 'weapons of mass destruction' story.

Babies born in 2005 are now legally adults.

Most of the large Sigmas were actually 8? figs. Destro and Dark Ninja Master were taller though.

The G.I. Joe Sigma 6 line presented several new Battle Android Trooper designs in the 2.5-inch mission scale that would have translated nicely into 1:18 scale action figures.

The Sky B.A.T.s were a welcomed addition to the 1:18 figure line, but sadly the Ninja B.A.T. and Heavy B.A.T. never did receive that treatment, (the Ninja B.A.T. was originally produced in an 8-inch commando scale, 2005).

I'm not locked into any era or scale. I like a thoughtful blend of progression and classic callback. And fun.
I'd still have preferred they went on to Robot Rebellion using designs from Sigma 6

I often wonder how the line might have evolved had they not started from scratch for the 25th anniversary.
There's some of my favorites ever in the end of VvV to DTC, solid figures that could fit right in to your classic Joe RAH collection

They're not unusable when they re-released the RHINO & ROCC, the Night Ops Vamps & Dragonhawks were very well engineered toys that fit or could be modified for 1:18 scale

Yes, it's the 2.5 vehicles line that worked

I'm guess it's because fans started to get worn out on the drastic changes to Joe over the preceeding years, I know there was backlash going from 3 3/4 to 4 inch

6-inch is the sweet spot for collectors. It's the smallest you can go without needing a magnifying glass to enjoy the details, or tweezers to hold a micro-sized bullet (lookin' at you, 50th Anniversary Low-Light).

3.75-4" is a perfectly fine size for an action figure for me.

If companies want to say the cost of plastic is a problem, they should be making figures this size.

I've built up a pretty sizeable Classified collection but no way in hell am I getting rid of my 4" Joes. The vehicles are some of the best of any franchise in that scale.
