[Lava Patrol]

I was watching DIC's second season (yes I know, one needs a good stomach to resist certain episodes :lol: ) and I was rather flabbergasted, after being shown many regular vehicles, and then two others, in all detail, but that they never existed as far as I know!

First is this kind of motorcycle;






It at least certainly is a sidecar. Cannot be for sure the Ninja Lightning!

And then this red helicopter for Cobra Commander;




Yes, on Sunbow many times we were shown vehicles, that were never released, but usually they were gigantic, or needed for plot purposes. On DIC; there is no plot, and much more on season 2 , so the need for that is quite useless (they would have had Road Pig flying flapping his arms, if they needed to).

What strikes me more, is the exactness of each one. DIC were not fans of overcomplicating things, so it quite looks like they were following blueprints for vehicles to come, that never did. Specially the green motorbike, you can't get more specific than that.

They both appear in episode 2 of the season 2 (the one with the Queen on it).

What do you think? am I missing something?

Hm. That helicopter looks like something that would have not bee out of place in the 2000s

The cycle is the unproduced GI JOE BATTLE CYCLE. It's mentioned on 1992 Duke's file card.
A preproduction model was made, and I thought yojoe.com had info, but I can't find any. Or anything else anywhere. Maybe GI JOE Declassified?

It also appears in The Greatest Evil

The copter is a mystery. It also appears the in episodes, "Messenger from the Deep" at the end, and "The Greatest Evil Part 2".

Damn! that would have been cool to get. I never thought this happened, maximum I suspected some cartoon character might have been involved, but never thought a full vehicle that was unreleased in 1995 was in DIC, full of details.

I suppose that for one reason or another, it kept getting delayed onto the next year, until GI Joe was folded :( .

I looked carefully and the Copter does have many similiraties with the Retaliator, but still some differences, and some of them very specific. The backwards landing poles for example. It seems as if they were going to reuse most of the Retaliator, repainted and some different pieces, for Cobra, but never got around. Maybe the mould of the Retaliator got broken early in production? that might explain why is quite rare to find nowadays, much more than other contemporary or later vehicles.
