i was born in 86 and started collecting in 89, she always supported my collection, she would help me get bigger items like bases and large vehicles, then i stopped collecting in around Extreme era, i got into xmen and videogames, but come xmas, id get a random joe here and there. i remember when they releases a 3 pack with destro in red/maroon, blue armored CC and a baroness, she got that and another set. dad detested it, he was a jock in school and thought i was an idiot for not playing sports year round.
i moved to FL from VA last year and mom still shops back home and mails me what i cant find down here. now, 23, i collect again, my girlfriend hates it with a passion, dad thinks im a failure, and mom thinks its cool because collecting makes me happy, gfs family thinks i have too much stuff in general. "Arent you too old to play with dolls", "OMG, youve got too many dvds... friends are more productive" me, i just shrug it off and wait for the holiday to pass to get them out of our house My girlfriend actually supports me collecting, she is the same with anime characters and such. She made a joke about us having to have seperate rooms for our collections when we move in together after I ETS. |

My mom doesn't like the way i live my life. I don't do things the way she wants. She doesn"t like my wife.
I have put up with her criticism and such for sometime. Last year she raked my wife and I over the coals about all the things we were doing wrong. I would have let it all go til she said "And I could do without your children..." I might go to her funeral. My mom cursed me with seven daughters just like me. When my girlfriend found out she was like "UH UHHH NOT FAIR!" |

Okay, fellow Tankers..... we have seen threads about our wives and girlfriends now its time to talk about our Moms. Who hear has a mother or father that does not understand their Joe addiction?
My Mom came to visit me and my Fiance in New York (from Florida) over the weekend and it was Hell......I have never seen such hatred for anything in my life. Don't get me wrong she loves my fiance but hates -HATES- my Joe collection. She came over for an extended weekend and I put her in the guest room which houses my Joe collection..... it also doubles as my office so I have a no use, no guest policy! But its my Mom and im not going to put her in a hotel..... well next time I will. She took one look at my room and gave me a three hour lecture on responsibility. Now mind you I am a 38 year old man who pays child support and Alimony to my ex-wife. I have a son in college and I have been living on my own since I was 17 when I found out I was going to be a Dad...... never borrowed money from my parents and never burdened them with any of my financial responsibility. I have two cats a dog and a fiance I support...... gladly I will add. But my mom thinks I have to many toys for a grown-up. Keep in mind this is the first conversation I have ever had with her like this.... so this is coming out of left-field. I thought I was going to commit murder when we took her to the mall and as any self-respecting man who collects Joes would do I stopped at Toy-R-Us.......sigh! Well that went to shit.... I found several figures I am army building and she gave me a :30 min lecture and Q & A on why I need multiples of the same figure. In front of the cashier and several mothers who snickered at me. I kept saying dont go all Christian Bale on her, dont go Christian Bale on her! Good lord I felt like ramming my head into a wall. This lasted...Thursday, friday, saturday and most of today! She even reminded me that as a kid I needed all those figures, never once admitting she bought them for me..... As her parting gift her very own "coup de grĂ¢ce" she put all my figures I had opened and on display into a laundry basket and when that would not hold them into a garbage bag and put them in the closet. She feels that the room should be turned into a baby's room..........mind you I don't have a baby! Anyway what is your Mother Horror story, or am I the only one with a crazy mom? I admire your patience. |

As far as the "Joe Thing" my mom is the $h^t. She played w/ more 12" Joes back in her day than she did Barbie.
She even helped me to take my family to the Kansas City Convention as a part of our vacation this year and she was all over exploring the exibits, ect. |

I can't say I have any "Mother Horror" stories. I've always had a pretty good relationship with my mom. Sure, we've had our little arguments here and there over the years, usually over petty things, but nothing ever severe. She knows I have my little quirks like buying occasional toy figures I like to display and what not. Sometimes when she's out around town she'll even pick up a toy or other item related to something she knows I like (Batman, G.I. Joe, Indiana Jones, etc.) to surprise me with. She's pretty cool with a lot of stuff, actually.

On a more serious note... some of my bros at work and I chat up Joe a bit daily (between Flagg sightings on ebay)... One dude tells me his mom used to cut out the back of his joe filecards where they had the little joe fig checklist boxes, and keep it in her purse. Would mark off when she had bought one, and go down the list to hook her son up with the entire wave.
That's one cool mama-jama.
