I just was watching more DIC series and guess what... dozens of Vapors appear! first on Evy's the range viper episode 13, some decent writer took charge of the show (it improved hugely over the previous episodes) and had Vapor added to the show. At first two Hurricane are shot down, two Vapors come out, and later 2 more hurricanes are shot down, and this time four Vapors come down...

Sooo, if you accept DIC; you can armybuilderize Vapors . I will indeed not keep more than one VTOL Hurricane, for cost and space, and this opens again my Vapor dilemma....

This was a good discussion thread, starting with your original question, is Vapor intended as a unique character or trooper? As many have soundly suggested, Vapor might have started as an original character, but animators wanted lots of action happening on screen, and used them en masse for the DIC series.

Scenes like the ones you mentioned must have stuck in the back of my memory, making me believe that there are many Vapors flying Cobra Hurricanes in the Cobra air forces.

My personal head cannon would be there's only one Pilot named Vapor, the rest are Hurricane Pilots wearing the same outfits with their own code names.

Kind of like how the Stratovipers have Raven, Mr Bones, and Mr Interlocutor as pilot code names.

Edit: Looks like the entire figure was reused to make the Air Vipers in 2003. https://www.yojoe.com/action/03/airviper.shtml Could be that Hurricane Pilots are just Air Vipers with updated gear.

Didn't Strato-Viper have a similar back story to Vapor in the comic? Either way Vapor is a bad ass figure and I need to get one for my Hurricane.

Strato-Viper wasn't a cyborg like Vapor, that was the Star-Viper. ISTR the Strato-Viper in the comics was surgically altered, but not given any computer implants.

Oh yea...meant the Star Viper (the one that came with the stellar stiletto). Thanks for the correction!
