I always think of Cobra Commander being more part of 1983 than 1982, just because that was when he got his carded release. Same reason I always think of Duke as an '84 Joe and not '83.
Voted for the Cobra Officer!

Cobra Commander for a bunch of reasons. Being my favorite character, of course he's got the best figure. Objectively speaking. 'Cause Stone Cold EvilMeanie said so.
That aside, his presence is like....such a defining moment in G.I. Joe history. The villain, totally fleshed out, with a cool silver mask and a brigade of faceless troops ready to take on America's daring, highly trained special missions force. There's no Real American Hero without Cobra, and there's no Cobra without Cobra Commander. Plus I think he's the most interesting looking and intricately detailed figure of the bunch - from the wrinkles in the pants to the double belts and even the black shirt underneath the uniform. And of course the sculpted on backpack that holds his gun, too. And finally, becasue CC deserves a three point thesis, his figure completely holds up with any era of the o-ring figures. He looks just as cool commanding a squad of 90s Cobra troops and being flanked by CGIs insted of CGs as he does with the other figures of his era. I guess a big part of that is how damn iconic that look became, but I still think it's pretty cool.

The name Cobra Command lingered on the packaging until the end of the line, yet, hardly anyone used said term.

I voted Snake Eyes due to the story behind the figure. It became iconic due to budget constraint LOL.
I just always think of CC as being more 83-84 because he wasn't widely available or single carded.

Keep voting, guys!
I probably should have had voting open for just a week, or maybe two. An entire month seems too long. Ah well... teachable moment.

I'm going with Scarlett only because of how unique the figure is within the whole 1982 lineup, unusual yes, but still iconic visually

Cobra Commander. Like Evil Meanie points out, he's got the best detail of the bunch and his look is infinitely cool and infinitely timeless.
Add to that the cartoon characterization/voice that was pure genius and made him an absolutely unforgettable villain, and a comics characterization that was pretty good up until a certain point, and there's no argument: it's CC all the way. I'd give Steeler 2nd, because his visor and uniform is just that cool, Cobra Officer 3rd, Stalker 4th and probably Rock n Roll 5th. |

Stalker for me. The beret and cammies, along with an early model MP5, just exemplifies bad ass.
Close runner up is Scarlett with all the little hidden weapons - throwing stars, pistol, stun gun, etc. |
