Hit&Run, both versions, would be must haves for me in Classified, but back to the question...
I pit sub factions against each other by amplifying their difference regarding social policy to distract their attention from economic policies that are far more impactful. |

Oops, sorry. No offense was intended by that when I called it fan fiction. What I meant was a fictional story written by genuine fans of this property, if that makes sense.
You probably remember that Justin Bell referred to it as G.I. Joe fiction on the GeneralsJoes website, such as on May 16, 2018, when he said: ...So I guess, if you love G.I. Joe fiction and you?ve wanted to check out Kindle Worlds, you?d best do it now because you won?t have much longer... The Kindle Worlds team repeatedly in every sentence and paragraph referred to the writers as Fan Authors, such as in this example which no doubt you remember in 2018: ...As a valued member of the Kindle Worlds licensor community, we wanted to let you know that the Kindle Worlds program is closing. We will be notifying fan authors tomorrow, May 16th... Because it was fan authors writing G.I. Joe fiction, it is easy to understand why I made the mistake of calling it fan fiction. Like I said, I have just seen that term thrown around almost derogatorily, which I think may be unfair to published and respected authors like Justin and Jim (and, if I can say so without sounding immodest, me). I hope I did not come across as if I was attacking your statement or being confrontational. That was not my intention. I apologize if it was taken as such. |

If the work is licensed and approved and published by the IP owner, it is not fan-fic. A lot of Trek and SW tie-in authors are also fans of the franchises, you gonna cheapen their efforts by calling it fan-fic too?

Fan authors would write fanfiction on Kindle Worlds since before the G.I. Joe community was first allowed to participate in Amazon's Kindle Worlds program. Here is a blog discussing the topic in detail, if you care to read about it and learn something: https://www.thebookloft.com/fanficti...-kindle-worlds

I always liked Python Patrol as a not-quite breakaway unit that followed a stronger Cobra personality (Copperhead at first, then Major Bludd when he was Pythonized many years later). Basically a private unit for a Cobra individual, because the "named" Cobras carving off little pieces of the organization to fuel their own ambitions seems very in keeping with the character of the Cobra organization.
I never really considered the Joe teams (with a couple exceptions) to really be "sub teams" so much as a particular group of Joes that just happened to wear semi-unified uniforms for particular missions. They weren't anything particularly special, just a change of clothes. The exceptions were Sky Patrol (which I didn't have, but always associated as its own thing, barely part of the Joes at all), and Slaughter's Marauders, who were Slaughter's personal squad. |
