Is it a fact that Super7 wanted to do O rings?
I've never heard that before. It's easier to pump out 5 POA figures into the market than O ring. But at this point, there would have been at least a dozen O ring figures now, if not more. Which is considerably more than Hasbro's O ring line, which has been mostly a dud.

i feel less bad about 20 dollar super 7 o-ring figures than i do 30+ dollar hasbro o-ring figures.
and i've said it numerous times how much i hate that super 7 sells it's 5poa reaction figures for 3x than what they were when funko was selling reaction figures. so that's something. |

If you research Hasbro's "Blueprint 2.0" part of this strategy is to lean further into their top-performing brands.
Contrary to what we want to believe, that doesn't include GI Joe at all. My speculation is that doesn't mean much for Classified, but it does mean O-Ring may be at high risk of, if not full termination, a rather significant pause.

I believe somewhere there's an interview with Brian Flynn where he states that very thing. Timeframe would've been between the first three waves of his 5 PoA Joes.
I think that's a solid theory. Especially given the O-rings cost as much as the Classified to produce, and just how well Classified has been doing for them. Though there's nothing stopping them from licensing them out should that be the route they decide.

The rumor of Super7 doing o-ring could be true, but is likely just bullshit. Even if Super7 wanted to do it and approached Hasbro, making o-ring figures isn't an easy process and is more intensive than even modern highly articulated builds--which is one of the reasons Hasbro moved away from it in the first place--so Hasbro could have decided they don't have the knowledge or the financials didn't make sense or any number of other logical reasons.
Bullshit is rampant nowadays. Plenty of people just repeat shit they hear if it sounds good to them without actually thinking about it or trying to verify.

And my question wasn't aimed exclusively at you. Thank you.

I would say Hasbro probably doesn't want anyone else doing O-Rings. Wasn't the reason we even got ReAction Joes because Hasbro wanted to keep O-Ring to themselves?
We have seen cuts - ME figures being brought back, new tooling introduced, and then the line phased out and then off to an Asia only market - but I can't see them cutting Classified. It seems to be doing well and it costs Hasbro no licensing overhead unlike Marvel and Star Wars. I definitely don't think Classified is going anywhere when it just had a massively successful Haslab. That might have given the line a longer life than it might have had. O-Ring? Are they really going to fold it with the Haslab not even having shipped yet? At worst I bet we see a decline in figures and a return to more vehicles. I still think the majority of O-Ring fans probably want the vehicles more than anything since they are nasty in terms of prices on the aftermarket for the originals. |
