...in your head canon, are your Joe astronauts recruited from Space Force instead of the Air Force?
Who are your Space Force Joes? Payload Countdown Space Shot Robo-Joe? Gears? Effects? What about Hardtop? And do you call your Space Force team Star Brigade? I refuse to call so small a team a Brigade. I like Space Force as a name, so I may use that. |

Yes, Bryon, my Space Force Joes include those familiar names you listed.
Instead of being recruited from the U.S. Space Force, mine were transferred into it when it was established Dec. 20, 2019 (because in the present day, slightly over two-thirds of the Guardians were formerly of other service branches prior to USSF). I don't call any of my G.I. Joe sub-teams by the names of the service branches, so I've kept the name Star Brigade for now. Remember, an alternate definition of the word Brigade is a group of people organized for special activity. That fits these astronauts just fine by me.

I just leave them in whichever branch they traditionally served in. Hardtop, for instance, was in the Army, so that's where he came from, not the Space or Air Force.
I also don't call the space Joes, Space Force... they're all G.I. Joes, regardless of whether they serve on land, sea, air, or space.

From the original pool of more than 3,700 officers and enlisted volunteers, U.S. Space Force selected 455 uniformed members. Some entire units were transferred, adding to the USSF another 215 uniformed volunteers and 259 civil service employees.
Separate actions occurred in fiscal years '21, '22, and '23 to realign additional space missions and units from across the Department of Defense to the Space Force. Military transfers were matched to Space Force specialties (space operations, intelligence, cyber, engineering, and acquisition) and most were assigned broadly into Space Force organizations after transfer. Military and civilians assigned to those units realigning to the Space Force remained in their positions at the time those units realigned. With this in mind, Hardtop could volunteer for transfer to USSF and be accepted, without losing his rank or assignment on the G.I. Joe team. Alternatively, he could wait for the Space Force to assign his replacement to the G.I. Joe team if he didn't want to switch service branches.

It occurred to me that another good recruitment source for these Cobranauts might have become available in 1997, when Russian Cosmonauts lost their jobs. To save money, the Russian Federation transferred the Missile and Space Defense Troops and the Military Space Troops to the Strategic Rocket Forces. Suddenly, a lot of experienced Cosmonauts were without a paycheck... perfect recruiting candidates for Cobra Astro-Viper assignments.

Pulsar and the other Space Rangers (Meteor, Nova and Photon) and Thrust and the other jet pack troopers (Ballistic, Velocity and Ramjet) are among the many new characters I added to AF in my fan-fic, along with loads of fighter pilots for Space Force, more Aquatroopers in Q-Force, vehicle drivers and crew for Z-Force and so on. |
