Interesting read on how the GI Joe story line started back in 1982 when Hasbro reached out to Marvel Comics to help develop storylines to use in G.I. Joe comics/cartoons. Hama at the time was working on his own pitch at Marvel, "Fury Force" that would have followed the adventures of SHIELD Director Nick Fury?s son, Nick Fury, Jr. It turns out that much of what Hama had already cooked up for Nick Fury helped adapt the G.I. Joe storyline as well as character profiles later on. I'm a huge SHIELD fan and I had no idea, cool stuff!

Fury Force... it's been a long road lol. I only have "Shadow" left to create in MTF form, I did most of the others years ago (mostly 2019) in "My MTF Universe" thread. I plan on updating "Steeler" & probably "Spook" eventually too when I can finish my "Shadow" wip, as there are better parts for them now. Shadow is still waiting on an MGR "2020 head" to be released... ;-)

Ten years ago, I would've been excited to see the MCU's take on Fury Force...

I'd create a fanzine called "Furry Force" for the furries & Chewbacca-lovers of the world, but this ain't the 90s.

i'd definitely feel like i failed as a parent if my child wanted to be an orange tabby house cat and take dumps in our bath tub - one of the many furries i've encountered admitted to doing that. anyway, this fury force thing is old news. |

Colonel Nicholas Joseph's Supreme Headquarters International Espionage Law-Enforcement Division and General Joseph R. Colton's (or, if one prefers, Brigadier General Clayton M. Abernathy's) Special Counter-Terrorist Group Delta - on the surface- may appear to be too different agencies, but Stan "The Man" Lee's & Jack "King" Kirby's super spy agency has had an influence on the creation of G.I. JOE.
As recounted in Toyfare Magazine #105, G.I. JOE was originally crafted as Fury Force, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s military arm led by Nick Fury's son, Lt. Nicholas Fury Jr., with core members Lilah Gaul, Spook, Brujo and Steeler. Larry Hama adapted several characters into the nascent G.I. JOE Team, with Spook evolving into Snake-Eyes; Lilah into Scarlett and Lt. Fury eventually developed into Hawk. The Fury Force aside, G.I. JOE has several parallels to S.H.I.E.L.D.: - The 1960s G.I. JOE Team & S.H.I.E.L.D. were both created under the aegis of US President John F. Kennedy (G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #152; Marvel Comics Fury oneshot) - S.H.I.E.L.D.'s original director was Colonel Richard Stoner; the 1980s G.I. JOE Team was under Brigadier General Lawrence J. Flagg. Both were assassinated/KIA and replaced respectively by Colonel Fury and General Hawk (Strange Tales #135; Fury #1; G.I. JOE: A Real American Hero #45. - Nick Fury answers to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Council; Hawk answers to the Jugglers. - S.H.I.E.L.D.'s primary nemesis is Hydra; G.I. JOE's is COBRA Command, which was specifically named as a homage to Hydra by Marvel editor/Star Wars writer Archie Goodwin. Both organizations, of course, vie for control of the world. - Hydra developed the Deltites, artificial androids to mimic S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to infiltrate the organization (Nick Fury vs. S.H.I.E.L.D.); COBRA developed the Synthoids to infiltrate the G.I. JOE command structure (The Synthoid Conspiracy). - The Arashikage Ninja clan plays a prominent role in the G.I. JOE comics; S.H.I.E.L.D. at times deal with the ninja cult the Hand. And where G. I. Joe has Snake-Eyes, S.H.I.E.L.D. occasionally calls in Elektra (or even Wolverine.) - In G.I. JOE, Snake-Eyes is hinted to have ties to the C.I.A. (G.I. JOE #43 [letter column]); G.I. JOE #103-105. Nick Fury has ties to the C.I.A. (Fantastic Four #21). A G.I. JOE/S.H.I.E.L.D. graphic novel would've made for a good team up of the two agencies. Indeed, its been suggested in G. I. JOE #62's Postbox: The Pit. My own idea would be to have the JOEs face Hydra for the first time and - thinking they're just on par with COBRA - underestimate them severely, with Hydra abducting G.I. Jane as COBRA kidnaps Pepper Potts (when she intervenes in their attempt to abduct Tony Stark). And calling in the ninjas does not go as plan as Hydra calls in the Hand! Have fun, Tommy and Jinx. The results - T'Jbang, Dojo, Nunchuk are KIA and Jinx broken - drive Storm Shadow into a dark rage, making him a potential liability. Meanwhile, Snake-Eyes is being recalled to the C.I.A., and Nick Fury gets to deliver the message. The matter is tabled when Hydra and COBRA's activities have the JOE's and S.H.I.E.L.D. form an alliance, with Hawk calling in Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, Stalker, Wild Bill, Slipstream, Torpedo, Claymore, Agent Helix, Gears, Flash and Beach Head to work with Col. Fury, Dum Dum Dugan, Countess Valentina Allegra Dela Fontaine, the Gaffer, Tony Stark, the Gaffer, Clay Quartermain, Agent 13 and Maria Hill. Meanwhile, Hydra and COBRA cross paths, with a very unsteady partnership forged that Destro severely doubts, even as Madame Hydra and the Baroness openly spite each other- and Baron Strucker manuevering COBRA Commander like a piano to take the fall if the Typhon Gambit , Hydra's master scheme- essentially a modified version of the Doomsday Project (from G.I. JOE #1) - is executed. With Pepper as leverage, Jane is forced to cooperate. But the main energy source needed to power the system can only be mastered and controlled effectively by a certain European sovereign... Meanwhile, Storm Shadow, barely in control, is brought back to G.I. JOE/S.H.I.E.L.D. control when he and Jinx are rescued and extracted by Wild Bill and brought to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. With the Hand as Strucker's wildcard, Nick calls in his own aces- Shang-Chi, Elektra and Leiko Wu. Both units gradually learn to trust each other, even as the Gaffer and Scarlett realize who Strucker and COBRA need to complete Typhon. As Elektra helps Jinx to recover- Next stop - Latveria and Doc Victor Von Doom. Doom is hesitant to ally himself with the Americans, until Fury invokes a provision of the US - Latverian non-aggression pact which has Victor giving his word not to cooperate with either Hydra and COBRA. On the enemy front, Destro evaluates the Typhon and is alarmed enough to warn COBRA Commander who foolishly confronts Baron Strucker head on. The results are... Not favorable. Meanwhile, Jane and Pepper cannabilize enough electronics components to improvise a distress beacon picked up by S.H.I.E.L.D. even as both make a risky bid for escape, one that leaves Pepper injured. G.I. JOE & S.H.I.E.L.D. move in as Baron Strucker receives Doom's refusal to cooperate. In a pique, the ex Nazi makes an error in protocol. The JOEs and S.H.I.E.L.D. mount an attack, supported by Adm. Keel-Haul's USS Flagg task force. Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, Elektra, Shang & Leiko take on the Hand and COBRA’S Night Creepers, as Hawk and Nick Fury bring their forces to the bad guys doorstep. Strucker makes a bid to use the Typhon, even in its incomplete form - wreaking havoc on the Flagg and damaging the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, but the JOEs & S.H.I.E.L.D. get a reprieve via Tony Stark's tech and covert support from Doom. In the midst of this, Scarlett and Torpedo rescue Jane and Pepper , with Shana taking down the Baroness, but being very nearly killed by Madame Hydra before being assisted by Jinx and Maria Hill. Nick Fury and Hawk confront Strucker, who gives both leaders a real fight, enough to barely escape even as Fury injures him. Hydra's surviving forces retreat, and Destro reluctantly brings COBRA Commander out with what COBRA forces remain. On the ninja front, Storm Shadow takes out the Hand leader before anyone can stop him. In the aftermath, the JOEs and S.H.I.E.L.D. take stock of the situation. Hydra's Typhon prototype is hauled away to be analysed by the military and S.H.I.E.L.D. and Stark Solutions. Both agencies find they can work effectively. As for Snake-Eyes recall, Hawk won't have it; Fury reminds him that he (Snake-Eyes) should be allowed to make his own decision on the matter. Scarlett talks to Snake-Eyes in private, assuring him she will respect his decision. In due course, he tells her as Hawk & Fury also learn about it... * As Stan Lee himself reveals it, the creation of SHIELD was influenced by the 1960s TV series The Man From U. N. C. L. E., which starred Robert Vaughn as Napoleon Solo. * United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. * In Strange Tales# 135, Tony Stark heads the Special Weaponry Section of S.H.I.E.L.D. * The Gaffer- Dr. Sydney E. Levine, is the special technology expert of S.H.I.E.L.D. - think Q from the James Bond films. * See Marvel's Super-Villain Team-Up #s 6 - 7 -https://www.facebook.com/groups/447381526693121/permalink/906824447415491/?mibextid=Nif5oz

In many respects, Joe "GI Joe" Colton is quite analogous to Nick Fury, particularly in how Colton was written during the DDP. They both have taken some unethical actions because they believed it was in the interest of national security to do these morally questionable acts. Sometimes their actions have been unconstitutional Colton by holding Baroness prisoner without due process and legal counsel and Fury by sending a strike team into Latveria without proper authority from the US government. Honestly, I kind of like making GI Joe a Nick Fury-type character. Heck, the Revolutionaries miniseries and its predecessor Revolution gave Adventure Force a bit of a Howling Commandos-like complex being the first team Colton lead before forming a top-secret counter-terrorism unit with a bit more superhero orientation given the inclusion of Bulletman and Atomic Man in the roster. Heck, Sgt. Savages Screaming Eagles was effectively a GI Joe take on Nick Fury's Howling Commandos even Savage himself is more of an amalgamation of Captain America and Sgt. Slaughter.

This is a badass of a vehicle that would blend well with that team. Quote:
