So It just occurred to me a couple days ago, some modern OG figures have been made basically wearing sweaters but I?m curious, we?re they ever actually portrayed looking like that in any comics or cartoons? From my research so far I haven't found any evidence.
The 30th Stalker and retro stalker both have on sweaters. So does retro grunt. Then the POC / 50th snake eyes also came wearing one. At first I thought it was cool cus they wear making them look like the vintage figures or comics or whatever, but now I?m realizing I don?t think that?s the case. I know in the comics sometimes they had the ribbed collars around their neck, but that was it. The rest of the shirt appeared to be plain. Just wondering if anyone has ever noticed them actually wearing these sweaters or what ever they are, or if anyone has any thoughts, opinions, etc? on this look for the OG crew?

I always got the impression they were sweater-y because of the sleeve cuffs and collar. They just weren't ribbed/cable-knit/whatever. They're definitely sorta Brit Commando-style though, with the pockets on the sleeves. I guess some designer at Hasbro later figured they might as well be more like that style because it looks cool and added the texture/ribbing.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread was this old comic ad, where Hawk was sportin' the old G.I. Joe "pullover". I guess the 2nd wave was where they started to wear something like a BDU, even though they were still pretty diverse in what they wore (vests, T-shirts, etc).
Duke comes to mind as being "squared away" Joe, or maybe Airborne. Last edited by Cobra Agent 66; 08-30-2023 at 04:39 PM.. |

Cajuns don't wear shirts, it's just another thing that gets in the way of noodling, gator-wrastlin' and gay sex.

To me, the OG 13 wore the Commando Sweater aka the "Woolly Pully". Used by many armed forces worldwide.

I?ve always assumed the same. Had my dad get me one when I was a kid to feel more legit when I played GI Joe with my little friends with our cap guns.
