I didn't think the Skystrieker was going to fund, I'm holding to my thought the only reason it did was two reasons:
O-ring figures on cards & It's the concept of being the big flagship item to restart the o-ring line so completionists needed to pick it up; however, now that o-ring has flopped the jet the only good one off for new product That said, I was on the fence right up to the end, but totally got in on it once it looked like it was going to make it. It's nice that it stands alone on it's own as a pretty sweet display piece, even if I never buy another modern O-Ring. |

if the they do a vamp for haslab, they need to sell it with the cobra stinger, but really I think the vamp should be at retail, so they can release it in other colors, the dreadnok version, the stinger, the tan version, the urban version, there are better choices for Gi Joe Haslab

Totally agree on all points. It's something that probably shouldn't have funded... part of a fairly exclusive line that never took off, expensive, dropped right before Christmas during other HASLAB periods, no real benefit to buying multiple other than to scalp (or redecorate in Cobra decals). The Joe team was really lucky that they managed to push it over the line like they did

Or even a character like Sparks, who is the ideal sort of throw in figure for an exclusive. I like the idea of making the Vamp in either green or tan, since it would provoke people into buying two.

YoJoe has a lot of incorrect info as far as original prices are concerned. I think they have Serpentor and his Air Chariot listed as being $4.20 originally when it was actually like $6.99-$9.99 if you check out ebay listings and look at price tag stickers.

I crosschecked this one against the Sears Wish Book scans and it was right. Then the Vamp II was cheaper (which may explain why that's the one I had).

Honestly, the VAMP is just such a boring vehicle compared to what other options exist at that size level...it would hard to justify. Electronics like lights that I may turn on once don't really excite me...neither does throwing in motors or remote control on something that's going to be a display piece.
If I were a product owner tasked with making a VAMP haslab, I would probably start with this: Concept: The VAMP as an off-road vehicle that comes with enough accessories to be used in combat dioramas as well as in off-road recovery dioramas. Let the Joes refill the gas tank, change a tire with the hi-lift and even swap the engine. Early Bird: * Generic Greenshirt Female Joe with standard GI Joe laser rifle and pistol in hip holster Base Level: * 2 seater VAMP, roll cage only. Green or tan. Maybe go wild and let people choose a color (black, tan or green) to encourage multiple purchases. * Towable MMS that reuses missile pods from the hiss tank * Clutch driver figure w/ standard laser rifle, helmet and pistol in hip holster * 2 Gas Can accessories with nozzles (maybe detachable nozzles) that are stored on back. * 2 Ammo cans that also snap into the vehicle * Removable Shovel that snaps to hood * Removable and swappable spare tire that snaps to hood (ala old land rovers) * Removable "high lift" offroad accessory that snaps to back * Hood lifts up to reveal detailed engine. Engine can be removed and snaps into engine hoist (see tiers) * Storage compartment in the back with removable lids for blasters, tools, etc. * Working recovery winch (manually actuated) * A way to peg 4-6 backpacks onto the sides of the vehicle so that joes could "dismount" and walk beside the vamp while it carries their rucks. * Electronic laser turret (leds powered by watch battery) * Real rubber tires * Lightbar on roll cage * Brushguard * Working steering wheel that turns front wheels * MAYBE soft goods camo netting * Towhook * Softgoods recovery strap * Turret can be removed with snap-in points already in place for a future stretcher (so that when they release Doc, his stretcher can snap into the VAMP and become a field ambulance) * "Working" suspension system * Whip Antenna (because whip antennas are cool) Tier 1 Unlock: * Missile rack to replace laser gun Tier 2 Unlock: * Uparmor kit. Base Vamp is just the roll cage, this adds roof, windshield and doors. Also include a garage "rack" to store them when not in use. Tier 3 Unlock: * Engine hoist to lift and remove engine. Maybe also include a couple of hand tools here. Tier 4 Unlock: * Greenshirt Hawk with SMG, Radio and a tablet displaying an elevation map. Tier 99 Unlock: * Towable trailer and Devilfish vehicle. ;) Last edited by MammothFan; 10-05-2022 at 12:21 AM.. |

Any vehicle that fans feel they "need" is going to fund.. and doesn't really matter how much it costs.
The HISS should have been at retail for $125 (without all the extra figures). But they could have also sold it for 500 on the Haslab and people would have still bought it. Hasbro is not convincing people to buy these based off of perceived value or trying to justify the price, they are offering you something you think you need and betting how much they can charge you. Anything they offer will be overpriced.. and no amount of LEDS or sounds will justify it. Those things literally cost them pennies to add in. Go to the DOLLAR store and you will see plenty of items with LEDS or sounds in them. Go to Walmart and you will find a firetruck as big as the HISS with as many lights and sounds for 20 bucks. But it really doesn't matter... people would have jumped on a 350 dollar VAMP or AWESTRIKER lol |
