For example....my favorite characters are Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. More than any other characters, they're full stories are very fleshed out and actually remain the same in most continuities.
So if I came along and made an account here called "SwordLoverzzz" and started posting my own personal theories about SS and SE being lovers, and included details like them wearing each other's clothes, and them having a "secret sign language" that only the two of them understand that they developed after spending many hours lying in each other's arms, deep into the morning..... Well, nobody could take that away from me, cause it's what I believe. But why would I ever expect anyone else to agree with me? I imagine most people would tell me that my "theory" sucks! Just enjoy what you enjoy, DT. Stop giving a crap what other people think or say!! Also, no one int he fandom would doubt Tomax & Xamot are twins. There's no way I'll be able to answer everyone's posts. Not ignoring anyone, just overwhelmed.

I guess I may have never thought of Zandar and Zarana as twins back in '86-'87 when I first got their action figures as a kid. Obviously they were siblings, but the thought that they were twins never crossed my mind at all then.
If anything, and I don't exactly remember what I was thinking 36 years ago at 8 years old, but I think I probably assumed Zandar was older and was maybe 4-5 years younger than Zartan and thought Zarana was probably the baby sister and a couple years younger than Zandar. May have also thought that since I grew up with a brother and sister and my sis was the youngest. I saw others mentioned it was in the comics, but it was also on her early concept art as well as some early card art on the back of some of the European Action Force cardbacks (along with Zandar's original art). Note she has the dragon tattoo still here, is showing more cleavage and her bare arms and her ripped pants don't have leggings underneath and just bare skin exposed.

I know he was working with Marvel (at that time, writers and artists were contractors/work-for-hire though). The question is, which came first? The file cards or the comic? I know "Marvel" had a lot of input on the toyline, namely Cobra and the female Joes, and both came out in '82. But when I hear Hama talk about it, he talks about writing "little dossiers" for the characters - which Hasbro saw and put on the back of the file cards. There's no date for the figures' release, and the comic debut in June of '82, but likely began production well before that. So what's the timeline here, did the file cards predate the comic?

Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
Everyone trying to determine which came first, so as to assign validity to the notions that the shirt and scarf aren't connected/Zarana& Zandar aren't twins/whatever comes later isn't as valid.

Larry Hama would then create a dossier for Girl, and call her Scarlett, give her an identity, psychological assessment from a physician, and a peer personality assessment from a fellow soldier on this team. (see copy of the actual dossier Larry Hama created below) Larry Hama next created the comic book. Kirk Bozigian gets the great idea to use excerpts from the dossier to create a file card on the back of the toy. Lastly, the toy and comic go to market.

Everything I love about my two favourite characters is being shredded apart. There won't be anything left officially and it will be gone.

Here is my 2 cents: Sometimes it is better to just believe what you want to believe when it comes to things like fiction and art. I am big music person mostly metal, hard rock and punk. I often find when you read interviews about what inspired an artist or hear artists talk about what specific song means/how you can interpret the lyrics. I am usually left less fulfilled than if I just sit back and enjoy the music in my own way. If you want to interpret something about GI Joe characters or lore in a certain way just do it. Looking for confirmation from other fans or the artists themselves is most likely going to lead to disappointment. IMO

Outside of that, you have the "twin language" which hasn't really been canonized and the suggestion of Zandar's scarf being Zarana's shirt. While those are logical conclusions, I don't see how their exclusion (for the time being) counts as "everything."

(Almost) everything I love about Star Wars was gutted like a fish by the Disney corporation. It made me sick to my stomach to see what they did to my favorite childhood characters.
But I don't care. Why should I care what some greedy heartless corporation says, just because they have a "deed" of ownership that they paid billions of dollars for? It doesn't make their lousy crap even remotely legitimate in my eyes. I can imagine Luke Skywalker doing whatever I want after Return of the Jedi. Disney can never take that away from me. Nobody can your feelings about the twins away from you, DT. However, if your happiness hinges on getting everyone else involved with GI Joe, from the creators to the fans to the corporate overlords, somehow agreeing and "validating" your theories, you'll never be happy. Stop caring about other people and just enjoy the characters the way you want to. |

I'm not sure how you reached that rather hyperbolic assessment. We've learned that Rudat initially wanted Zandar's scarf to match Zarana's shirt, that the color was changed and then changed back to match, and you've already gotten Hama to confirm that they're twins. Are those not among the biggest things you love about them?
