DDP had Zarana glued to Zartan. IDW developed (briefly) Zarana & Zandar together and had those bios.

I've always appreciated how much responsibility Zarana takes on. She has effectively led the Dreadnoks whenever Zartan isn't around (which is often). For a period of time she nearly ran Cobra itself as well, despite ostensively being a freelancer. She must have been a very competitive bargainer behind closed doors. And she is very aggressive.
Zandar doesn't seem to have much drive, although I did really like and appreciate how much he was developed in DDP. He even went so far as to join Serpentor's faction, and I remember him being kind of a scary badass in that title. He actually was a little spooky then. I retain these impressions of the character even though it is a different continuity. And though it would be cool to see a serious attempt to develop him more, I actually think the mystery is helpful to his character. There was a time when Snake-Eyes, Wolverine, and Bona Fett were all mysterious and had pretty big question marks in their past, but now they are all heavily explored and bland. As far as other continuities bleeding over, I still maintain that Mindbender was a pro wrestler before being a dentist, and I don't even remember what continuity that was from.

While I definitely think the edits were done in bad faith, I also don't think the Hasbro Hero Sourcebook, that IDW released, should be considered a general source with the character profile. For the IDW profile, yes, but IDW comics contradict stuff from the original Hama Marvel comics and the cartoon series. G.I. Joe really needs a Wookieepedia-style makeover, with a dedicated CANON section (whichever Hasbro thinks it should be) and a LEGENDS section for everything else. I think that would be helpful.
Given Zarana has been in: cartoons (Sunbow and DiC), comics (at least THREE different continuities), kids books, YA books, file cards (which can vary from media)...you can't pick and choose if you want to be an effective resource. Hasbro has never really been big on establishing a hard "canon" with its franchises, even if most tend to share significant commonalities.

Actually, given the range and differences between the MANY different medias many characters appear in, TFWiki is likely a better example as they DO acknowledge the myriad of material a character might appear in.
