I think where accessories is concerned, more is always better
As long as it doesn't drastically affect the price, its just more bang for your buck

I prefer just backpack, helmet and rifle / sword. Less is more sometimes.

More is better with accessories as long as they make sense for the character and are constrained by price point. Having different options for display is nice.

Sometimes I want my Snow Serpent to be firing a mortar and sometimes I want them with machine gun.

This! POC figures on 25th packaging would be awesome.

Is that what the Collectors' Club figures were? Or even the Wal-Mart Retro ones:

I said POC, but I really don't think there is a sufficiently defined line in the sand here. Actually, I don't really think there is a great definition of what "modernization"/"modernizing" really means. Most 25th figures have what I would consider to be a modernized look, necessitated mostly by the upscaling/added detailing. Some POC are what I would consider to be modernized, some are entirely new designs. I don't think it's particularly useful to assess at any level other than the individual figure. Like is 25h Airborne a faithful rendition or a modernized approach? Is POC Zartan a modernized approach, or a totally different design?

I like a mix. The updates are nice sometimes, on some of the very retro feeling figures... but some things are a classic cuz they're great.

I definitely get what you're saying. For characters like Airborne and Zartan, I would say that they were never done in their classic looks in POC. But this is also something that could be said for other characters like Cobra. Don't get me wrong, the POC Cobra Soldier is amazing, but does it capture the classic ARAH design of the character, which is what I thought the Retro line was trying to accomplish.
