Oh man I was just about to post this. It was a particularly disgusting rant.
Frenchie said he would feel no sympathy if the Hasbro marketing teams that do the livestreams were laid off. He doesn't realize how disgusting this is. Apparently, the public is in revolution against Haslab because of the overpriced Ghost Rider car, even though multiple Haslabs blew the roof of not two months back. But yeah, the public is finally "waking up" And he informed us that HASBRO is more beholden to "Wall Street" (ie Shareholders) than us. I mean, I almost fell out of my seat at that truth bomb. Life changing info. And after calling anyone with an MBA who works for Hasbro a lizard in a human skin suit he posted this on Facebook: "Lotta haters out there this morning all angry about my words regarding Hasbro and Mattel... slinging the personal attacks and calling me a liar. Yep, it's a typical Thursday..." Seriously, this guy is HILARIOUSLY delusional... I love him. And the ETERNIA playset is fairly priced at $550. I saw it in person, at Comic-con and it is INSANE. USS FLAGG level insane: Look at the people in the background for scale. The thing is half as large as a 6 foot tall person. And 4 feet wide. It's a monster. What would you expect to pay for this behemoth? |

I'd never watched any of his videos, but occasionally peek into this thread to see what the fuss is about. So this morning YouTube recommended his Eternia video. I gave it a good four minutes before turning it off.
I listened to a ton of AM Conservative talk radio in years past (long commutes + pre-streaming music), and it's the same gimmick. Take some bullet points, wildly mangle them into incoherent freeform rants that eventually render the listener into submission that this is "informed." Like a 30 minute Ultimate Warrior promo - sonically it conveys the emotion really really well, but the substance of the sentence, upon the slightest examination, is revealed to be the highly emotional incoherent ramblings carefully hiding the lack of a cogent thesis statement. Like one of my posts here, but presented as an "industry insider." Heck, he even goes full Tucker Carlson with the post-hoc mea culpa saying he wasn't attacking Shartimus Prime (That is TRULY a person's youtube moninker? For god's sake...), he was just citing an example. Is his gimmick to wear Member's Only jackets, or is that photo above just coincidentally similar? Anyway, what a poor, poor soul. I'd rather be a man in a lizard skin suit (or however he phrased it, some weird nonsense reminiscent of Michael Savage's paranoid AM radio rants about "red diaper doper babies") than someone peddling in idiocy for the world to observe via clicks. He got that one click from me, but there will certainly not be another.

I have a feeling that his rant about Eternia is built out of the frustration that he's bought into the MOTU Origins line, and secretly really wants this new Eternia, and realizes the value is reasonable, but he's so committed to his public position that any crowd funding project by big companies is evil, that if he buys the Eternia playset, he'll look like a complete hypocrite, and thus, he's trying to spoil it for everyone else who wants this as usual by trying to encourage people not to support Eternia.
His vintage 3.75" 5 POA Marion Ravenwood figure fell over on a table during a live stream and broke, and he had a hissy fight and blamed his guest (even though his guest had nothing to do with it), went straight on to Ebay and bought a new one for $400+ like it was nothing... but a huge Eternia playset for $550 is just too much, lol. He's criticizing Hasbro for leaning into nostalgia of ARAH, yet he's totally bought into the MOTU Origins line, which is arguably more nostalgic than GI Joe Classified as it mimics the aesthetic of the original figures way more closely. He claims that he won't buy Mattel Creations exclusive figures, cause he won't support such predatory practices, but he certainly made an exception for Grizzlor that was on his table, and had a convenient excuse to go with it too... Apparently he draws the line if they're hard to get, lol. All this saber rattling against people shilling for corporations... perhaps its just Michael projecting, from his years working in PR for a major corporation (the definition of a corporate shill). |

This belongs in General Discussion doesn't it?
You guys have been off topic for 30 days now and this definitely not Gi Joe related at all. |

Hes no different than everybody else buying anything no matter the price based solely on if he wants it bad enough then talks about how Hasbro has a tap into peoples bank accounts but yet he has a Patreon doing the exact same thing to his subs! The guy is a huge hypocrite, so much so its a joke at this point!

There's real reasons to criticize how Mattel is handling this, early backer bonuses seem exploitive on something this expensive, where fans have to decide if they can afford the set at all. The moat monster should already be included as part of the set and not a goal since it's sculpted on the vintage set. (like how Origins Grayskull should've included the space armor, even if it meant Sorceress getting the boot!), the "surcharge" thing, which is really a shipping fee?...NO CONSUMER ON EARTH LIKES THE TERM SURCHARGE.
The reality is, Eternia would never see mass retail release. Mattel would never commit to making a production run and hoping it would sell. It's this or nothing. Back it or don't, is all you can do in the end. I will not be. Money, space and we might all be radioactive by spring 2024 anyway. |
