G.I. Joe definitely needs to steer away from being overly realistic. It was never super realistic and was always heavily influenced by sci-fi and fantasy, even more so in the cartoon.
I want GI Joe to be full of action, but also possess touches of humor and have light-hearted moments as well. That's the spirit of the franchise, or at least ARAH at the heart of its core. The problem with the new Joe films is they take themselves waaaay too seriously and all the fun is zapped out of it because it's all doom-and-gloom and serious -- which is a problem with a lot of today's action films. I think someone said if you make GI Joe uber-realistic with no sci-fi or fantasy or humor, you basically just have Call of Duty or Black Hawk Down. The sci-fi, fantasy, humor and light-hearted breaks is what made GI Joe what it is. Really wish the film's producers and directors could see that. I do tend to think GI Joe may be better suited as a series than films though. I mean, unless they do it PG-13 style like the MCU films, it just doesn't work as a film since there are so many characters and stuff.

The Ninjas and their mumbo jumbo should have their moments and subplots it just shouldn't be ALL the plot and maybe the whole setting doesn't need to be "Six Degrees of Snake-Eyes." |

This is where Action Force has it's place. It's G.I. Joe without the ninja-crap for those of us that want that.

Lol. French doesn?t even remember his previous position on Classified. So too rooted in nostalgia is bad, trying to modernize it also bad? Which is it? Obviously, his attacks are being a shill for his friend Vala but maybe he?s worried about the future of Action Force. Vala talking about selling/partnering with another toy line to get his product into big box stores. Being and independent toy maker is also very risky when you invest your own money into creating every wave and need each wave to sell well. Also, playing a dangerous game making all the weapons real world accurate, referring to them by their real name, and not licensing them.

Resolute remains my single favorite piece of Joe Media.

Taking the "Ninja hocus pocus" out if GI Joe is like taking Jedi/Smith and the Force out of Star Wars: You can tell stories without them, even good ones, but if you excise it entirely then it's not really Star Wars anymore.
The Ninjas and their mumbo jumbo should have their moments and subplots it just shouldn't be ALL the plot and maybe the whole setting doesn't need to be "Six Degrees of Snake-Eyes." To me ninjas in GI Joe were basically Storm Shadow and Jinx. Maybe some Slice and Dice because I liked them. But Firefly, Scarlett - they don't need to be ninjas. They can just have some martial arts skills. Stuff like Ninja Force, Red Ninjas, Blue Ninjas, etc. can go scratch. |
