Personally no but if the direction it is going keeps the brand alive then yes.

I'm mostly pleased, with a few niggles. I would have liked them to continue the Wal-Mart Retro 3 3/4 line, instead of returning to the same tired O-ring design. I won't be collecting any of the O-ring figures, based on what I've seen thus far. I also would like them to include more accessories with the standard Classified figures, as they keep pushing the price up closer and closer to Super 7's Ultimates line. Also, better paint apps on the accessories. Too many unpainted blades and guns in the first few series of figures. A little paint would go a long way and you can't convince me it would raise the cost to produce each figure much more than a few pennies per figure.

I love the return of O-rings but really wish they would acknowledge the legends of this franchise and support Operation Recall. It just must have a Hasbro license and be celebrated.

Yes, saves me money! But as for what product I’d like, modern 1:18 joes, poc/50th type articulation. I’d dig getting vintage o rings for 13 or so each, but they seem off, not the same as the 80’s versions, and like 20 a pop. Have zero interest in 6 inch.

This is tough. Because there's so much going on, and while I would say most of it I don't like, the things I dig I absolutely love. (and no offense to the people who do like these things)
For instance, IDW's handling of the comics after the initial couple years of the Dixon run, and the Gage/Costa books has been abysmal and I don't have any faith that the new company will do any better. The comic industry as a whole is a dumpster fire. Any of the media post Resolute/Renegades (the live action movies were all awful in their own ways though there was at least some performances in each film I liked, I suppose)so I have zero faith in the Lady Jaye show, if that ever even happens. Also, given the atrocious artwork and idiotic writing on most modern cartoon reboots of the classic series I've seen so far I have no interest in any new Joe cartoons. O-Ring figures, as much as there's a huge place in my heart for the toys of my childhood don't interest me as an adult. So the switch from ME format back to O-Ring means that 3-3/4" figures are no longer something Hasbro does that I care about. I don't care about Transformers or crossovers with them, or dayglo Vipers and the characters of the post 86/Movie era which seem to get a lot of love from the team now. After collecting the Sideshow line and loving it and watching it devolve from top shelf renditions of classics to them churning out generic ninjas and ending before we got so many classic characters and Cobra troops I have ZERO interest in the prestige format licensed lines like ThreeZero, or Mezco. Not because they won't be quality, but because I have zero faith in Hasbro to support it beyond the typical "usual suspects" of the line that always appear. So, yeah. The vast majority of what Hasbro does with Joe at this point I don't care for and find disappointing. That said, What they are doing that I love in the Classified line with updating the classic characters and troops from the first 3-4 years in 1:12 scale I absolutely love and it's enough to keep me happy. I just have to accept that before I get all my classics I'm going to have to wait for them to be peppered in with characters like Alley Vipers, Serpentor, Sarge, and Mindbender. That's okay. The only real gripe I have with Classifieds is they could bring more small vehicles into the line that are actual classics that people want (Ferret, Trouble Bubble, Night Landing, ClAW, Snake Armor, Devilfish, etc) and tap into the greatness of the small playsets like the Forward Observer Unit, Cobra Bunker, Machine Gun Defense Unit, etc rather than cheap looking playskool junk like The COIL. As much as I want Stingers and Vamps and tow behinds. I know that's probably unrealistic at Retail given the state of Joe now. That said, the state of Joe is really Hasbro's fault. So, while most of it I'm not happy with. The stuff I like in Classified is enough to keep me happy.

I'm blown away by what we've seen from GI Joe over the past couple of years.
I know we're all a little frustrated with the fulfillment of Classified, but overall the line has been great. Hasbro's willingness to adjust and adapt has been exciting to watch. And this might sound like a weird accolade, but I'm thrilled that it has gotten to the point where there are releases I don't want.* The fact that it has expanded enough that I don't feel compelled to be a completist is actually a good thing! I'm hyped up for the o-ring revival, whatever form it takes. I didn't think I really cared about modern o-rings until Hasbro revealed them. Like Classified, it's great that they're willing to course correct. Although I'm still into the idea of updating at least 1982-1987. Plus, TRANSFORMERS CROSSOVERS! 46 year old me is just as thrilled as 10 year old me would have been. I do feel bad for fellow ME collectors who want more. Over the years I transitioned from o-ring to 12" to new sculpt to ME to Classified with a brief Sgt. Savage phase along the way. I've made peace with Joe changing and formats I'm used to coming and going. I do wish we could have finished the OG 13 in that new style, though. Super 7 is my jam. I recognize the flaws in some of their products, but the spirit of their offerings is so perfectly aligned with my toy collecting ideals that I can't help but love them. The fact that they're making Joe product is wonderful. I think Mezco's One:12 Collective is the best action figure line available today, so I'm thrilled about those, too. Beyond that we've got Jada Toys, Threezero, Funko, Hiya, and probably more that I'm forgetting. What a time to be a GI Joe fan. The brand is as alive as it's ever been, and we don't even have ongoing new media. (ETA - yeah, the comics. They lost me years ago.) As far as that media goes, I'll take whatever they want to make - cartoons, live action TV or movies, a Spy Troops revival, whatever. I think we've seen that Hasbro can and will support new media while also delivering more traditional styles, so it's all good. *For those curious I don't feel a need to get the blue ninjas, Marauders Barbecue, or the Crimson BAT. I'm not mad at them, they're just not for me. |

I have been mostly disappointed with the current direction of the G.I. Joe franchise, which is not the popular response to say, but it is an honest one.
These are exciting times for the brand, for sure, with the 40th Anniversary of ARAH but there is nothing I have wanted to purchase since 2021. That is a half a year of lacking much interest or enthusiasm with Hasbro product. The last Hasbro purchase I was genuinely excited about making was the Walmart Retro Grunt and Stalker action figures, but for reasons I don't fully understand, they placed this line on hiatus after investing in new tooling at a factory outside of China. I am collecting licensed G.I. Joe product such as the metal figurines and vehicles by Jada, and the board games/role playing games by Renegade Games Studios, but I wish that Hasbro would offer occasional Modern Era 1:18 scale action figures again, so that I could share the excitement and enthusiasm this year and actually purchase something I want from Hasbro. The Hasbro Pulse announcements are fun but also a little boring to me because while the G.I. Joe Classified figures are beautiful to behold, I have never seen these in stores and would not purchase one if I ever did only because it is out of scale with my collection. The only recent G.I. Joe presence in media has been the 2021 Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins film, which I regret watching even once in my lifetime. The comics by IDW are getting so dull that I stopped reading them a few years ago. Because I don't purchase any 1:12 scale figures, I don't actively look for these products in stores or online. The 1:18 scale G.I. Joe Retro O-ring action figures are way overpriced, and not nearly as appealing as used vintage action figures found at toy shows or on eBay. The current direction of the G.I. Joe franchise is uninspiring overpriced product that does not have a place in my collection, but I am genuinely happy that the brand continues to please others with massively expensive pre-ordered product soon to be fully concealed inside paper bags sealed in cardboard packaging without windows. I enjoyed buying H.I.S.S. tanks from Walmart priced at 30 dollars each, but have no interest in a Transformers 90 dollar H.I.S.S. tank from Hasbro Pulse, or a 300 dollar H.I.S.S. tank (soon to be revealed as a HasLab project).

six inch figures and company factory produced 25 dollar o-ring figures of the same characters and sculpts the release every time they do something.
lots to be excited about on my end. (not really.) Last edited by THEDARKONE508; 06-09-2022 at 08:06 AM.. |

I find myself a little disappointed honestly. The O-ring stuff, even though not necessarily exciting, I have a place for since I like the occasional carded figure behind my loose displays. But I find the direction of the Classified line a bit disappointing.
Most of the figures look great, BUT... I don't need or want 6" figures of ARAH figures I already have. I liked that the Classified line was originally modern updates. That is what pulled me in to it. Even with the occasional flawed figure, they were new. But now, none of the new figures have that same feel. Outback is great, but nothing about him is any different than his 3 3/4" counterpart. Falcon and Dusty have the same problem, but have even less "pop" to them than outback. I like the new reveals' and think they look solid, they just aren't what I am wanting.
