When they saw what happened to their beloved 1960's gi joes ?
I often ponder what it would have been like in the old toy aisle back in 82. |

I can remember going to James DeSimone shows in the early 90's. The 12" guys definitely were their own group. They were every bit as fanatical about their stuff was we are. They didn't really interact with us 3 3/4" guys. So, yes - I would say they probably did have a hard time with it.

Well, the 12" collectors/fans were a much smaller "community" then, especially when compared to the size of fanbases nowadays, and they'd been without 12" GI Joe product in stores for over 5 years by that point. We tend to forget that GI Joe transitioned from 12" to 8" Super Joe before 3.75" ARAH, so it wasn't like Hasbro suddenly stopped making 12" Joes and replaced it with 3.75". There really wasn't anything to "freak out" about, and it was probably more like disappointment. I remember hearing stories of some animosity towards 3.75" fans, but I think that was overstated. I know most just kept on doing what they were doing, while some got into the 3.75" stuff. Kinda like right now how there really aren't a lot of 3.75/4" guys acting like turds to Sigma 6 or Classified collectors, and many actually collect the larger scales too.

probably about the same feeling i have for everything moving up in scale.
i dont like it (i actually, really hate it), but i can still focus on my stuff and be fine. i always heard the reason for smaller figures was the cost of making big ones was getting high. well, now we're looking at super stupid expensive little figures when the cost of materials to make them are getting high. so are we going smaller? fortnite's got a smaller line going. |

In 1982 we had jobs and our mothers lived in our house. And we collected the 12 inch Joes using magazine ads and good old Cotswold collectibles. I miss the good old days. Have any of you kids ever seen camera film?

I heard that 12" collectors were causing a ruckus at the 1994 convention, saying things like "Now that you're canceling that RAH @#$%, you can get back to making real Joes". As if you can't like both...

Few years ago I got the wrong shipment from DVT. In the package I received, I got 4 12” Joes and they were spooky ass dolls. My yoots had a few of the early 2000’s 12 inchers but they never got play. The 2000’s 12 inchers weren’t spooky but damn those old vintage 12 inchers were the worst. Kinda cool to see but wow.

Having collected the Adventure Team as a kid I can say that the way many of my friends felt is not dissimilar to how many RAH collectors are acting with Fortnite's 4" line. While many of my friends who collected the initial G.I. Joe offerings were not, I was totally game for RAH when it debuted (being a Star Wars fan/collector as well, how could I not?!) and see the same enthusiasm in my own son when it comes to Fortnite and it's "world building" capability.

One of the reasons my dad started buying me the 80s Joes was because he collected the 60s versions and wanted to share his childhood with me. It didn't matter to him that they weren't exactly the same. In fact, he thought they were cooler, because of the vehicles and better size for a child to play with. It's fiddly playing with a 12" action figure when you have small hands.
