And Hasbro still tried to make it look Nerf in the photoshoot.
Cool learned (or was reminded) something new and can see it with the proper side view of the box.

Edit: And Nerf is always fun with what it can be turned into.

I must say I don't need the Joe guns to be REAL, just feel right. It's why the Pulse Rifles and big guns in Alien work: They FEEL like real guns. GI Joe has had fancy future tech since its 80's inception. Sci Fi's lazer, Jet Packs, half of the vehicles, most of anything MARS makes... Sci Fi is fine. It's the execution.
In Classified, the issue for me with Roadblocks railgun wasn't that it was Sci-Fi, its that it didn't have any "Weight" to it. It looked thin and reedy, and didn't feel like a heavy weapon. Beachheads Shotgun thingy (Or whatever it was) didn't looks like anything and couldn't be held well. Gung Ho's weapons were more of a mixed bag. But the assault rifle and pistols that Duke come with worked for me, because they FEEL right. They look cool in the hand and work well with the figures. Snake eyes guns (Aside form the holes) also worked because they LOOKED like a cool Sci Fi fun. I've accepted that we are moving away into more "Real" weapons styles, but I don't mind them not BEING real. I ask my questions here more out of curiosity than anything. Being Australian, I dont have the extensive knowledge of guns that a lot of Americans have, so I have to ask.

There's very few entirely realistic guns in Classified right now, it's taken close to ten waves to go from entirely Nerf to hybrid mixes to entirely realism

I think the most recent waves strike a good balance. I totally understand the desire to design a character in totality, including down to making all the equipment bespoke. If anything I would like to see more consistency between weapons, as if they were from the same fictional manufacturer. Or say, a carbine form of an earlier released rifle, etc. M.A.R.S. is such a big part of G.I.Joe lore, I'd love to see more weapons directly stamped with their logo and integrated long term into the lore of the brand. Similarly, why can't there be other rival fictional manufacturers making stuff used by these characters?
So for me, as long as the functional, mechanical anatomy is on point I'm ok with having cool for the sake of cool furniture. There are hundreds if not thousands of companies out there making after market parts for ARs and AKs, so I think it's perfectly plausible to get those familiar patterns by way of fictional in-universe suppliers. The Alley Viper and Cobra Officer both have great AKs that I can't immediately place if the various parts are real or not while still being able to immediately identify what gun it is, and for Cobra especially that works for me. Besides, that leaves a perfect space for the likes of Grid Iron, Marauder, Mark II and so on to fill with their own offerings if you want stock real world accuracy. They're all doing such great things, I'd hate to see the opportunity window for them close.

I always loved Alley Viper's rifle. It's "fake" but looks like it could exist. In my head canon, it feeds a small high-velocity round like the 5.7 along that weird magazine, with a small grenade launcher barrel above the rifle barrel, with a scope on the top that can be used for both. When you look at some of the stuff that FN makes and Calico made in the 80's, weirder magazines have existed before.

The alley viper gun that the new snake eyes timber also, looks like is based on a saiga 12 or similar 12ga ak variant. Going off the mag anyway. Regardless if that is correct or not it is definitely based on the ak platform.

Yeah, take a look and compare it to this AK74u here, checkout how the fire selector switch/safety, ejection port, charging handle and front sight are generally in the right spot. I just read it as a modern manufactured copy with modernized hand guards, stock, sight rail etc. The magazine reminds me of a magpull PMAG but it's no style I can find, I think they just made up their magazine style to reuse across weapons and that's fine, another thing that could be attributed to a fictional company - maybe even M.A.R.S.
