You could argue that he did when he was labeled a traitor , or since he does mostly desert ops, he adopted the famas the same way our 3rd group guys adopted Alpha AKs and foreign weapons in the different theaters they visited

Interesting discussion. I've always imagined that since the Joes operate pretty differently than other military units/branches, their agents can pick pretty much any weapon they want from the Joes' vast inventory of standard-issue, foreign, and experimental arms. So in Dusty's case as an example, he rocks the FAMAS because he just likes it better and has some bit of history with it from his pre-Joe days.

Well that's the interesting thing about G.I. Joe and Cobra. It would be boring if it were too realistic, and every Joe had an M-16. Giving a Joe a FAMAS or a Galil makes it more "customized" and unique. Some Cobras have an AK, some not.

Can you imagine everyone in the Joe team are all equipped with an M-4 or M-16? How boring would that be? I love how a lot of Joes are equipped with different weapons from various country/makers, make them have that true "Special Forces" feel. Besides, FAMAS, Galil, AUG (and many others) all fires 5.56 Nato anyway, so sharing ammo should not be a problem.

Sharing ammo wouldn't be an issue, but magazines and other equipment would be. A true special ops feel would in fact have everyone have a similar loadout with slight variation and the only specialized firearms would be for specific purposes like a master key shotgun or a standalone grenade launcher. No real life team would go out with drastically different weapons. But as others have said, being too realistic would make our Joes lose their appeal for some folks.

Theses days, the majority of a Special Forces team would be using HK-416s or M4s for sure.

As for the varied weapons and sharing ammo, that's not so much of a problem if the guns all not only take the 5.56mm NATO round, but also the NATO STANAG magazines.

I've thought of it like this over the years, Joes/Cobras would be constantly deployed to various parts of the earth so having standardized weapons isn't of concern.

There's no munition sharing if they're using lasers. Cobra's using Warsaw pact rounds so there's no shortage for them especially if your universe is set in the Sunbow years.

If you'll notice, Joes use NATO guns so in my universe they were outfitted by militaries they were operating with or in the region of. That's how Dusty got his FAMAS, working with the Foreign Legion.

The ninjas/commandos often use the UZI or the MP5 in recent years which parallels current events.

Of course, there's still far more guns of pure fantasy in GIJoe even with the huge number of realistic weapons.

I'm kind of like that too, if they're fantasy weapons then they're either GIJoe prototype weapons or MARS purchases.
