Not trying to start a political debate thread. But given recent geopolitical events over the years, I could see them splitting into two factions given individual birthplaces:
"West" Col. Brekhov (b. Odessa, Ukraine) Red Star (b. Odessa, Ukraine) Diana (b. Prague, Czechoslovakia now Czech Republic) Horror Show (b. Tbilisi, Georgia) Schrage (b. East Germany, now Germany) "East" Stormavik (b. Moscow, Russia) Dragonsky (b. Moscow, Russia) Big Bear (b. Archangel, Russia) Gen. Iron Bear (b. St. Petersburg, Russia) Sgt. Misha Zubenkov (b. Smolensk, Russia) Lt. Gorky (b. Archangel, Russia) Wong (b. Xinjiang, China) Based on what we know from Marvel comics and other media, Where would their loyalties lie? Thoughts?

They would have probably broken up with the Soviet Union, maybe some of them coming back together later if they reorganized the unit.

It would probably be a different case if they hadn't served under the USSR as loyal Soviets. I guess we'd have to determine whether or not they are loyalists or separatists at heart when the USSR dissolved. Given their outlook on "Western Imperialism," and the fact that they never defected in just about all the source material, I'd say loyalists. They likely fought on the pro-Russian side during the Maidan revolution, too. They'd have been the perfect team to get ousted president Yanukovych's family safely out of Ukraine and into Russia, unharmed.

They would have split up. The Beatles, Eagles and Blink 182 split up so this group surely would have.

The Oktober Guard's portrayal as "hardcare Soviet loyalists" got watered down with every succeeding appearance as the glasnost era took over. And then IIRC they almost all died.
Given what happened with Russia in the immediate aftermath of the USSR's collapse I'm highly skeptical the Oktober Guard would have managed to stay together. It might have been reborn later on down the line but the original membership likely would have scattered. |

Brekhov, Schrage, Stormavik and Horror-Show were all dead by 1991. Daina and Dragonsky remained in the Guard with Lt. Gorky and Sgt Misha joining, and with Red Star later joining them, post-91.
most of them would probably be retired by the late 2000s. |
