I had Big Bear, Overlord, and the Battle Wagon too. And yeah, garage sales could be amazing finds. Around 91-92, I got Hooded CC, Cobra Soldier, Baroness, v1 Destro, Ripcord, Straight Arm Rock n Roll, Straight arm Stalker, Straight Arm Clutch, v1 Gung Ho, v1 Major Bludd, Firefly, Stinger Driver, Wild Weasel, Crimson Guard, Footloose, Lady Jaye, Snow Serpent, Lamprey, Zarana, Sgt. Slaughter, and Thrasher all for 10 cents each at yard sales.

I turned 50 in December, been a Joe fan since 82. Did have a couple of 12in Joe's mixed in with my Jonny West stuff. Wasn't really into them, not like the 3 3/4 toys. Think it was a size issue.

The first Joe comic I bought on the stand was #111 when I was 8, almost 9. That was the issue where CC gave the SAW Viper strippers to dance with for mowing down a bunch of Joes, so yeah, darker than the cartoons. I had gotten #69 in a pack of Marvel comics from my aunt at some point before that. Then I got #117 on the stand and every one after until the end of the initial run. The comic became my canon. Around 92 I got a bunch of the old issues collected in these little digest editions, and bought as many back issues as I could from my local comic shops.
Started reading maybe 6m ago. Pretty dark compared to cartoons. I'm sure I could blast through them if I tried. My joe world has been pretty dark since I got into metal gear. |

Guns were a hard sell in my house at young age cause of a negligent discharge one of my parents had at a young age. |

Totally get the size thing. Gave away all of my o ring stuff when ME came out. Bought way in. Then the line died. Reluctantly switched to another genre but 6 in scale. Kinda love the scale but space is a MASSIVE issue.

I'm from the V1 3.75" green shirt Joes era and stopped paying attention not long after the Cobra-La movie. I had the Marvel comics and watched the ARAH cartoon.
If I had known about the o-ring Street Fighter figures, I would have pursued some. Same with the modern era ultimates. I try to make a point to catch the back to back ARAH episodes on Discovery Family. |

I’m 45 in the middle of this year. I started in ‘86.
I don’t recall us having G.I. Joe earlier in Australia, the first I remember seeing of it was the commercial on TV for Serpentor. Lifeline was my first figure, followed soon after by Beachhead and then a solitary BAT. 87-89 is when my collection exploded. |

I'm 25.
I managed to hit the end of GI Joe vs Cobra, Spy Troops, and Valor vs Venom. Also hit the very end of the 12" Timeless Collection, a bit of the 40th (through dad), and a good sample of the Classic Collection. I carefully avoided the Sigma 6 line. While also being young enough to get a good amount of the 25th ARAH Joes. I lived through the last (most recent) high point of GI Joe. I have a lot of memories of store aisles seeming FILLED with GI Joe. It hurts to see the pegs/shelves so barren now. I work in an industry that regularly puts me in other people's homes (multiple times a day. In 3 years I've only seen 1 house with Joes, and he was a collector. I see army toys in sons' rooms periodically, never Joes though. Usually the low-cost 5POA guys, sometimes not even that good. I can only imagine what it's like for the *ahem* older crew here, who experienced the third main heyday of Joe (Chronicalogically speaking, 64, 70, 82). It's gotta hurt you guys too. |

51 here. Started in '82 but it only lasted a little while as I was already a bit older than the typical age group. I never got into the original 12" line until Sideshow picked up the license later on, but limited my collection because of the price point. I've amassed a decent sized collection since the 25th line but have grown to appreciate the other lines and their contribution to the Joe mythos.
