I am interested in what peoples thoughts are regarding the big CC.
Who is he? Where is he from? Why does he wear the mask? I have always followed the Battle Action Force story line public Enemy Number 1. This was once Baron Ironblood who turned his back on the red shadows. But what do you think as to who he is? Is he like a Bin Laden character who came from a rich family and went rouge? Where did this evil start and why? Why does he wear the helmet? It must be just an identity thing and not a breathing apparatus because he also wears the hood. So it must either be to mask a hideous deformity or is it something I have been thinking about? Is CC actually a very prominent and recognisable person? Perhaps a politician? Is CC the useless Buffoon shown in the sun bow cartoons or is he a serious evil mofo like in Resolute? I think the latter. I would love to get everyone?s views. Is he completely someone different in your Joeverse? |

He's a former used car salesman and wears the mask so that he can walk around in public without police and FBI identifying him as the leader of an international terrorist organization.

I didn't grow up in the 80s, so I'm not attached to one or the other. Used car salesmen, weird snake man, I don't really care about the origin or who's under the mask. I guess I'd equate it to the Joker, particularly in The Dark Knight. Guy is just suddenly there makin big moves, could've been here the whole time and no one knew, now it doesn't matter, all that matters is taking him down. But I've always been a "leave more to the imagination" kinda guy, like I loved when a filecard would have "CLASSIFIED" planted all over it.

CC is right up there with Batman and Egon Spengler as one of my favorite fictional characters ever, ever.
I've long been incredibly fascinated by how many radically different takes on the guy we've seen - pretty much since his introduction. The first filecard establishes him as a pre-Bin Laden style terrorist. Hama initially wrote him a calm, calculating, and ruthless leader. Loved him in those first ten issues, by the way. Then you've got the toons. He's silly and egocentric and a full-on megalomaniac, and I loved every bit of it. The "face" on the moon bit gets me to this day. But, all in all, he was still kinda/sorta a cartoon counterpart for his comic book character. No Billy and no added depth, sure, but still the increasingly mad leader of an increasingly splintered terrorist organization. Movie shows up, and bam. The retcon that still keeps me up at night. How the writers managed to come up with the idea of making the character a member of a prehistoric clan of insect loving snake people is just the damnedest thing - especially when you consider what a blatant retcon this idea was. Drove me crazy as a kid. Multiple eyes? Blue skin? I didn't even get much of a chance to process all that before dude winds up getting turned into a snake and discovering what a cool guy Roadblock is. And that was just the original mythos. He's a totally different character in Sigma Six. Resolute seems to kinda/sorta be a reimagined version of the Sunbow character who was just acting silly to make his troops better. Rise of Cobra is Darth Vader Lite, and Retaliation is "oops let's maybe rethink the whole Rex thing and not really mention it anymore. Oh and go with the traditional mask this time, too. Other one was weird looking." And it was, too. CC has basically been reimagined as practically every villain archectype you can imagine. Tortured soul with a tragic past. Evil world conquering alien. Wacky madman with silly schemes. Ruthless and physical leader ready to throw down with the good guys. Best friend turned bad by tragedy and a misunderstanding. Secret head of a huge and highly influential company. Have we done Robot CC yet?

I kinda like the comics take that he was a working class schmuck who gets fed up by the daily indignities and injustices of working class life. He was smart enough, ruthless enough, ambitious enough to try and challenge the system and did so on a massive scale.
I mean the guy built and finaces an army that can hold its own against the most over-funded and powerful military in the world. He's like Lenin, Che, Tyler Durden, Lex Luthor and the Joker all rolled into one seriously dangerous maniac. But I also like to leave him with a mysterious and unknown origin, so in my world, the whole used car salesman origin is just the best guess of the military intelligence apparatus. It may or may not be true. Whatever the case, he is a true revolutionary and is only considered a bad guy until he wins, because we all know that "the winners write the history books." In his own mind, he is a hero fighting against oppression, exploitation, injustice and imperial aggression. COBRAAAAAAA !!! |

Such good info guys. I love it! I like the idea that he is like Lenin etc all rolled into one but then this becomes a bit of Serpentors story.
Could a used car salesman rise up to lead an International terrorist organisation? That would be a story on its own. Why would a simple car salesman want to hide his face from his own troops though? Is it also simply so he can walk around in public unopposed? I think there is more to him. The movies have not helped at all Evilmeanie says. I think he would be a very prominent figure not a car salesman and that's why he hides his face. Or is it a horrid deformity? If it is what kind and how did he get it? I really enjoying these type of discussion topics trying to understand everyones opinion and view. I know others just prefer not to get too deep into it but as I have got older it has been really interesting for me to go deeper into these characters. |

Larry Hama’s take was the best. He was just a regular guy with a boring job and an older brother who was serving in Vietnam.
His brother returns home with deep psychological problems and ends up dying in a car accident. CC ends up blaming the federal government and takes up arms against them. |
