There's much less patriotism than there was in the 80's, there's currently no cartoons (even though I don't think cartoons have helped GIJoe since the 80's because it didn't help Sigma 6 or Resolute)...there's not enough merchandise on the shelves for people to even find or it's too overpriced to pull in new collectors i.e. Super7, however the biggest issue is there's no big promotions with videogames other than the occasional ones with Snake-Eyes but nobody knows who he is.

Well, Patriotism is probably in there with a bunch of other reasons. A lot of things that made Joe (and things like Bond, etc) cool back in the day to us are now looked down upon, or outright demonized by the prevailing "popular sensibilities". Or what the media says they are. Add to that, chaning technology and it's role in the lives of young people and Hasbro is left with a toy they don't know how to market to kids because they don't want to risk losing the steady cash of the old timers.
Seems simple enough to me, make Joe for different age ranges. Make it something kids can grow with. Have a young kids (under 6) cartoon where you get some specialist Joes helping solve problems without shooting things adventure team style like Snow Job, Torpedo, Alpine, Doc, etc. Keep the toys simple, cute and fun with sounds, etc. Then the modernized ARAH stuff for the 6-12 crowd with is more like classic Joe with some of the stereotypes dialed back and made for modern audiences. Give them cartoons, games and a small line of toys, because let's face it. Kids don't really do toys now. Still military spy action adventure/espionage thrills with a bit of martial arts sprinkled in. A bit more serious and higher stakes, but still fun and not too heavy. Then for the Teens/Adults the Call of Duty/Battlefield style games, higher end figures and collectibles, and maybe some quality programming along the lines of shows like The Man in Highcastle, Homeland, The Unit, 24, etc. Essentially, much of the early IDW universe blended with a more Resolute feeland streamlined to quality live action. The problem is that at the end of the day. Hasbro is just a toy company in a world where the new generation has almost abandoned physical play. They have a fantastic IP, with a dedicated older fan base many of whom have kids or grandkids now. I know my boys loved the Resolute and Renegades era of Joe respectively, but hasbro abandoned both and they grew up and moved on to CoD/Battlefield, etc. While Hasbro made 3 crappy movies, and a lame video game. Because Hasbro isn't a media giant, game company or a movie/animation studio. Just a toy company who farms it's IP out to those studios most of whom don't respect the IP or Hasbro's customers. Until Hasbro figures out that the board and rules have changed. They will keep failing. |

Nah, there was plenty of anti-American sentiment around the world back then too, but that's a non-issue as far as US sales of GI Joe goes. Around the world it's less about anti-American sentiment and more about just wanting things that represent your own nation, same with in the 80s. I mean, GI Joe was tailored to fit the markets it was sold in so the kids there could identify with it better. I know if I was growing up in China or Honduras or Mexico or the UK or etc, now or in the 80s, I probably wouldn't want a bunch of American soldier toys. I mean, as an American kid in the 80s, I didn't want a toy line of Chinese or British soldiers.

Because kids today suck! Maybe if they made some GI Joe brand antidepressants the line would have more exposure with today's kids.

If the triple-A, high budget GI Joe video game actually makes it to the finish line, you better believe there will be a mass marketing campaign. A high profile game with a marketing push could do wonders for getting the brand to catch on with a younger generation.

Yo Joe-zac! Even then it would still only sell to us adult nerds. "Hey Doc, the TV told me to ask you about a new anti-depressant that comes with a free Dr. Mindbender figure..."
