Say that the comic gets picked up by a new publisher who decides to restructure the team and retire both Hawk and Duke. Slaughter is gone too. It's been nearly 40 years since most of the file cards were produced. Surely some of the characters have advanced in authority and skillsets.

Who do you pick for the command and second-in-command positions?

Entirely new roster. Basically retire anyone that was on the Joe team in 1992, but still pay homage to them and have some stick around as instructors, or intelligence contacts that are still active in the community. It's time to give Baroness some gray hair and crow's feet, as much as that might pain some fans.

Somehow I see the Baroness being more like Elvira as she ages. Too "old" to act that way, yet the men still sneak a peek.

Haha, no need worrying over 2015 when dealing with figures from the '80s. I truly don't want Snake-Eyes still on a modern team. I'm fine with Gung-Ho commanding a team in one part of the world, Iceberg commanding an Arctic team, Falcon or Beach-Head commanding another subteam, etc., etc., all reporting to one figurehead, but the death-defying-military-super-ninjas should be retired with Larry Hama. That was his baby.
