If the line were to return, I think it's time to reboot. And I hate that word, but it is time. I think a lot of the classic characters are good enough to keep, but could use updated back stories. No stories with any ties to Vietnam (the conflict, not the country) should be included. People seem to forget that conflict was about 50 years ago. Even if the Joes were freshly drafted out of high school, they would be almost 70 by now. Many of the specialties would have changed as well. Could you imagine the importance of someone like Mainframe in today's GI Joe?

With the US having recently gone through a two decade war on terror, there is tons of opportunity for good back stories. This could include a fresh take on the formation of Cobra, which after all was a terrorist organization. I personally know many soldiers who were beyond disgruntled when they got out, and that would be a perfect recruiting opportunity for Cobra. As would our current political climate.
If they reboot GI Joe, Cobra won't even be able to kidnap the Eiffel Tower or point a laser at London anymore. It'll all be vague generalities. We already saw how they handled it in the Snake Eyes movie - there's a lot of sword swinging, but guys fall down and nobody is even confirmed dead. The protagonist and antagonist aren't even military entities, it's ninjas vs ninjas/Cobra. Even if you didn't like the movie, it's a good measuring stick to see what their current guidelines are for writing. |

Either of these examples. I'd like to see them maintain a fantasy military element, though. Recruit from the actual military but make the team not just elite but advanced. Star Wars isn't realistic but darned if it hasn't won over a mighty fanbase. I've got no problem with a sci-fi element as long as it acknowledges and respects the military core.
The sculptors of the Joes with masks also seemed to like to show the facial features through the mask for some reason. It's a definite pattern. Is there some reason for this? The Cobras seem to always have the mask area smoothed out for a more mysterious appearance, leaving the eyes as the focal point. My favorite masked Joe has always been Shockwave as he's the only one who didn't get this treatment. Last edited by BizCopperhead; 11-05-2022 at 09:23 PM.. |

I think they could have just given him grey accessories and a slightly darker mask and the figure would be much more liked as a commando SE. Last edited by BizCopperhead; 01-19-2022 at 06:02 PM.. |

I don't see how that's much different than the original. It was his accessories that were ridiculous, not the figure itself.
Edit: Did you mean the blue stripe on his leg? I think they could have just given him grey accessories and a slightly darker mask and the figure would be much more liked as a commando SE. This looks like a Mortal Kombat Smurf to me. The darker blues, sleeker sculpt, and toned-down accessories make him look less likely to be found fighting a battle at Legoland. |

I still mostly blame the accessories but, yeah I get what you mean. He's just generally a bit oversaturated.
