So, curious question...Ace is an Air Force officer (O-3, Captain) but flies an F-14 Tomcat, the Skystriker. Weird thing is that The Air Force never had the F-14. They had the F-16 Eagle. I wonder why he wasn't made a Naval Aviator instead of Air Force??
Are there any other Naval Aviators on the Joes?? Wild Bill is Army Aviation, Calvary. Are there any other real pilots on the Joes? |

The original file card for Scarlett listed her secondary specialty as classified. Then:

This thread contains the names of all the pilots.
https://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-j...oe-pilots.html The only Naval aviator would be Keel-Haul, he flew F-4s in the 60s. |

Any chance that list's Maverick has a need for speed and rear named Goose?
Marauders has a sunglasses head that looks a lot like Mav's rear after Goose died. |

Honestly, I would think that Air Force would make more sense for kids as Navy seems more like someone who's on a boat. That's actually how I always saw it as a kid. I felt Navy was more geared for naval operations and probably would have been confused as a kid if Ace was listed as being in the Navy versus the Air Force.

The Joes never flew F-14 Tomcats. They flew XP-14F Skystrikers.

The swept wings, etc. |

I know. I was just being sarcastic. Hasbro probably couldn't use the F-14 name due to licensing. The Skystriker even has the Navy logo on it.

Well, if you're gonna get all technical about it, the Skystriker is waaaaaay too small to be an F-14. When I realized the scale problem as a kid (thanks to some documentary or maybe even Top Gun), I just figured it was called the XP-14F Skystriker and not an F-14 Tomcat precisely because it wasn't a Tomcat. As I learned more about this stuff, and discovered "X" usually designated "Experimental," I decided the Skystriker was an experimental smaller plane given to GI Joe exclusively. And then girls entered the picture and I stopped giving a shit about such things.

I had a mint Terror Drome that I got when I was something like 25 and I was blown away by how useless it was, and sold it a few years ago. I see folks' collections crammed on to a Flagg and I'm not impressed at all. The whole thing looks really claustrophobic. I'll be moving into a house in a few months and I have plans for an 8x12 table for GI Joe display instead. I'll make my own slice of airfield. |
