Kind of mixed feelings. He was annoying in the cartoon but the mini-series itself was cool. He was much more "regal" and more of a warrior and leader in the Marvel Comics, but I kind of fell out of reading around that time. Honestly, Zartan capping him is the most memorable thing involving him! It just showed what a boss Zartan was!
I've never had any Serpentor figures, but if they did a Retro based on the old figure & chariot, I'd get one. I'm passing on the Classified and passed on the 25th, but I have a "special memory" about the vintage chariot... I was waiting in line to buy him at Mervyn's, but they were closing and pulling the gate down, so I ditched him to go meet my parents. Never bought him, and kind of regretted it! |

Destro's private army flamed out as a third faction rather quickly. Overlord was not used in media except for some commercials and a subboss in one of the video games. Serpentor is someone who made an impact in terms of GIJoe lore, in all big media... toys, cartoon and comic. No one else has challenged Cobra Commander like that.
Big fan, but I am mixed on the vintage action figure as it is far too regal to be used as a super powerful guy he was portrayed in the cartoon. |

I'm into his backstory, how he was engineered, I think the whole globe-trotting side of it was exciting

He was around until the end of the Cobra Civil War. Now, I really have to guess, but it could not have gone into the 70s. I would imagine he was only around for about a year. I will try to do some research and get more specific tomorrow. |

I do not have anything to check right now, but I want to say his origin popped up around issue 48. It should be easy to find because the cover shows Mindbender and Destro stealing a skeleton from a tomb or something (again, I am going by memory). I think this was about issue 48 because I think 50 was the assault on Springfield.

Some form of entertainment (card game?) way back introduced the concept that Mindbender was a pro wrestler hobbyist after his clinic hours.
That tidbit has been picked up and repeated a bunch in different media. It is difficult for me to see him any other way now.

Next time, make him Cobra's answer to Super Trooper. Both could've been part of the same super-soldier program.

It kind of bothered me that they didn't use any Hitler in his DNA. Like, the "greatest" of all tyrants. I mean, it would be hard to get his DNA, but are there even actual gravesites for Attila, Hannibal and Sun Tzu?

According to Emily, they are making as many Serpentors as they did Dr. Mindbenders, so hopefully that means everyone will be able to get him, if they want him.
