Why? Was he mad at Cobra commander or find out who was responsible for blind master?s death or did the commander dishonor his family or his sister?

He was always a good guy. He only infiltrated Cobra to learn the identity of the Hard Master’s murderer.

He's kind of Joe's anti-hero. He switched to Joe by 1988, but every time there's a reboot, Storm Shadow is Snake Eyes' enemy. Frankly, having them both on Team Joe is lopsided, they're too badass together. They stomped Cobra Island with an Uzi, a sword and a bow.
I'm guessing that's why we got Slice & Dice later, to balance out the coolness. I actually love Slice & Dice, it was just too little, too late. Before that, it was just random red ninja and Night Creepers to chop down. |

If you're looking for the official Marvel-lore answer, wedge has you covered.
I'm not especially attached to the comics, but I do like the idea of Stormshadow having his own mercurial motivations and loyalties. He was loyal to the original CC for reasons nobody else understood (maybe he was drawn in by the guy's cult-leaderish charisma during a particularly vulnerable time?), then he left around the time CC was shot in the back and replaced by Fred, then he teamed up with the Joes and his best frienemy SE for a bit, then he sort of goes off on his own, starts up Ninja Force, etc. He's probably extremely bi-polar, and has a ton of trauma from war, family tragedy, and having his brain fucked with by Mindbender. He's loyal to a fault, but also highly erratic and enigmatic. All while being one of the single deadliest human beings ever to be born. So not really a good or bad guy but something in between.

He switched sides more then a piece of cheese on a sandwich. In my verse he is just a merc. Pay him the right amount and he is on your side. Someone comes along and pays him more to kill you then your dead. I did not like how he was portrayed on the show. I was always more of a comic guy. The way the modern comic does him is ten times better.

The crux of the matter is that Cobra is an evil organization dedicated to selfishness and cruelty, while Storm Shadow was always a better person than that. But for a while he was willing to pretend to be one of them in order to further his plan of clearing his name. Blinded by rage, he thought he was doing a good thing when he wasn’t.
However, eventually he realized that he had become obsessed with anger and revenge, and that he was becoming a bad person who would use and hurt people like Billy and Snake Eyes. Positive examples set by those two helped him realize that he was betraying everything he believed in, so he made a change and over time started to build a better life for himself. He?s not a bad guy who became good, but a good person who temporarily went off the rails due to a personal and family tragedy. |

Hama didn't like the only Asian character at the time being a villain, hence why Storm Shadow was turned into a good-guy.

Never a bad guy. I've read the Hama run back and forth a hundred times, and the only "bad" thing he did was kidnap Scarlett, attempt to take a shot at the Joes with a sniper rifle from a tree, and he slashed Gung Ho on the back with a sword. And all of that was while he was working for Cobra to try to find out who killed his uncle.
At the same time, he was the only one with the honor enough to not let a little kid get executed, and he risked life and limb to rescue Billy from death row. He was never welcome back to Cobra after that, and that was way back in the early issues. He also tried to kill Professor Apple cause he thought he was Zartan, but not long after that, he gave up his blood feud with Zartan and no longer sought revenge. The closest he ever came to fighting a Joe again was when he infiltrated The Pit to get some answers from Snake Eyes after his near death experience when Baroness shot him. Nobody was hurt, and Snake Eyes gave him the key to his cabin in the mountains to chill out. He's been 100% good ever since, and in the next 100 issues or so he killled or maimed a looooot of people, but they were all Cobras and bad guys. He killed a LOOOT of Red Ninjas too...but in his defense, they started it. "Casual" fans will always remember Storm Shadow as a bad guy cause of the cartoon or even the figures, but the truth is he was pretty much a good guy all along. Well....he did kill that squirrel for no reason way back when he was training with Snake Eyes, so he's not exactly an angel. Last edited by Otomo; 11-30-2021 at 11:00 AM.. |
