I hated the coastal defender until I saw one of those old movies about the attack on pearl harbor. I forget which one, but someone drives up a mountain to a trailer that has a radar station in it. Reminded me of the coastal defender, it made a little more sense after seeing that. It still took me about 25 or so odd years later to finally get one.

A lot of those wind-up packs were...questionable, but probably more so on the Cobra side.

The motorized backpacks were probably the oddest part of the line for me, but are they playsets?
I wasn’t old enough to have things like the ammo dump or rifle range, but I always thought they looked cool, like they could make a great setting for a story when it was playtime, or a great contribution to a small diorama on a shelf in between playtimes. |

The Battle Barge is illogical to be sure. Maybe manned by BATS? But wouldn't it still be a waste of time? I think Toxo Viper got heatstroke and is shooting at imaginary sea creatures.
i think the Coastal Defender is misunderstood. It's not a MASK vehicle to fool the enemy, but has a plain boxed transport mode. Not the coolest weapon, though. Someone once called the Cobra Rifle Range a "terrorist training camp." Really, that's what it's doing! LOL The Watchtower was too short/small to be of great use. Cobra Bunker was a simple idea but a problematic toy...too cramped inside, falls apart by design. The Mortar defense...almost everything is good in that set except its mortar sucks! The forward observer's one is sooo much better. The Fort America's base mode is maybe not a mini-playset, but still it's a pile of bricks with a turret on top. Action Packs were a bomb. I remember stores having those into the 1990's. Hasbro learned their lesson: include figures with the gimmick packs for sonic fighters, etc. |

I mentioned it earlier but the Checkpoint is amusing to me as an adult. Most elite special ops unit in the military...but you're still gonna have to pull guard duty/gate check. |
