If the guy that worked higher up than any of us did at hasbro says they are just siblings then I think that should settle it and let it go already.

They can be twins for anybody if they wish to imagine them as such, depending on the author or even the child playing with the toys.
For example, are Cobra Commander and the Baroness siblings? Some might not think so if they read Larry Hama's comic books beginning in 1982, but many times that number of people witnessed that they were demonstrated to be siblings in the origin story as shown on movie screens worldwide in 2009. Again, it is whatever people want to pretend with their minds.

As nice as it is to see people being so dedicated and keeping it alive at the end of the day the story is the person buying the figure's story to tell.

It's definitely interesting to see the community find things decades old so that's where my interest is, but outside of some obscure comic references with questionable backing it seems the twins thing isn't there

What about Hasbro neglecting the fact that the JOEs are an American joint special operations counter terrorist unit who defends human against COBRA, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world? Or Duke is now a "go to," squad leader?

They're definitely twins. That's just Playful trying to diminish it again and again.
Stop it, Playful. It means the absolute world to me. Just stop it. Blaming their being verified as twins finally, on potential serious health issues on the part of the writer? Are you serious???

So got one of the Ballantine Joe books this past weekend and was able to read through it today! Invisibility Island has one reference to Zandar in it...
So confirmation that back then there actually was a reference to them being twins and not just siblings. The book was published in May '88, so probably written in 1987 when both figures were still being sold in stores. Still waiting for other book, Operation: Jungle Doom, to arrive in my mailbox. Anyways, thought DT would like to see this. Also was nice to get some confirmation on this!

I get why someone who really digs the characters is so invested in them being twins, but I don't get why someone would be equally invested in them not being twins. I mean, the idea of them being twins makes them more interesting and adds to the Zartan family dynamic.
I bet ya they were meant to be twins, but there was already a set of twins in the mass-media stories of the comics and cartoons and just no room in those two already crowded Joe-verses for another set of twins, so that was left behind. So many of the Cobra characters are just two-dimensional villains, they need a "signature" thing to make them stand out. Tomax & Xamot's entire identity is their twinship (and some sort of circus act connected to being twins). Without that, they're just two creepers who run the finances...which is pretty boring stuff for kids (and adults). Zarana stands out if for nothing else than just being a woman in this sausage-fest. Without something extra, Zandar is literally like a clone of Zartan and would be mostly superfluous, so I could totally see them originally intending him to be Zarana's twin. As I said though, when it came time to write them into the comics and the toons, the twin thing was already taken.

The thing is that JOEverse no longer exists.
