Mattel is the obvious answer. Lanard has (or had) the Predator and Alien licenses, and actually made pretty nice figures.
Then there's the possibility Disney does it alone, which isn't that far-fetched. By all accounts Disney and Hasbro have a terrific working relationship, as evidenced by the recent re-up for the Star Wars license, Disney immediately giving them the Disney Princess license after Mattel's contract was up and awarding them the Indiana Jones license without even bothering to shop it around.

In GI Joe?s case, Hiya is making a specific expression of GI Joe targeted to adult collectors. Probably 4 inch super articulated figures. ThreeZero makes 12 inch articulated figures directed to collectors (meaning you aren?t going to find these at your local Walmart). Super7 makes a limited articulation 3.75 inch line and a 7 inch articulated line aimed to collectors. Hasbro makes (or has made) mass market/cross demographic GI Joe figures in the 4 inch, 6 inch and 12 inch formats Under the new/current management, Mattel has made quite a turnaround. So much so that Disney gave them the Princess license back this year (even as Hasbro extended the Star Wars agreement and secured Indiana Jones). And I?d argue that they?ve done a better job relaunching Masters of the Universe (even WITHOUT a multimillion dollar film) than Hasbro has done with GI Joe.

In business nowadays, pretty much anyone who doesn't fall under your own oligarchic umbrella is a competitor.

Sorry, but that's all nerd-bubble talk. You either have no clue how the rest of the world at large has been impacted by the recent Star Wars media, or you're just unwilling to recognize it...which is evidenced by your own admission of "Baby Yoda" success being given grudgingly. Not to mention your half-baked and anticdotal "evidence" of failure. Hearsay of a film not making money is still hearsay. It wasn't what you wanted, fine, but that doesn't mean others didn't like it. The numbers don't lie, man.
2. I never said the Disney films didn't make money. I suggested that, had they been good, they should've made much more money. The only one I have any doubt about making back its money is Solo, and even that one could go either way. 3. The internet is not the real world. It's nothing like it, and has almost zero bearing on reality. Observing people and things in the actual world around you tends to give you a much better perspective. Quote:
Remember how nerds from the 80s hated the prequels, but the kids who grew up with them actually like them? Well, same thing now. The kids who've been growing up with recent SW love it. And guess what? People around the world who aren't SW cultists and see them only as a fun flick happened to like them too.
2. Ironic that right after criticizing my anecdotal evidence, you present anecdotal evidence of your own and act as though it's fact. Not the best manner of debating. Quote:

The Force Awakens - "All told, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the most purely profitable film of 2015 and one of the most profitable films ever with $923 million in net profits. Cartwheels and champagne popping at Lucasfilm."
The Last Jedi - "The Last Jedi was still 2017?s most profitable movie with $418 million in net profits. Even a divisive Star Wars product was a massive commercial success." Rise of Skywalker - "And yet, despite all of the turbulence, the global blockbuster still hauled in a net profit of $300 million for the studio." As far as merchandising, the problem seemed to have been over ordering by retailers. But you gotta stop listening to the Geeks and Gamers and Bounding Into Comics style hysteria:
From 2017: "With ?Star Wars: The Force Awakens? and ?Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? providing major boosts, global retail sales of licensed merchandise rose 4.4% to $262.9 billion last year, according to the Licensing Industry Merchandisers Assn." https://variety.com/2017/film/news/s...se-1202438161/ From last year: "Despite Lucasfilm not releasing a Star Wars movie last year, toy sales for the franchise were up by an impressive 70%. " https://screenrant.com/star-wars-mov...2020-increase/ 2. You're missing the area around TLJ. I don't think anyone would argue that TFA and R1 stuff sold well. That was pretty clear, and unsurprising since they were the first films under the SW name in quite a while. And as I already pointed out the Mandalorian stuff has clearly caught on: they note in the 2nd article that sales are "up 70%" which fits in with the TLJ and RoS slump that Hasbro themselves noted, IIRC. Naw, man. His whole argument was that Disney had made SW an even bigger and better success. Look back at the impact of the OT and the decades since, all the money made and fans who got involved...Disney ain't even close. Even what they have made is still mostly skating on the reputation and memories of the OT. Quote:

Also, given your obvious political slant, it's ironic that you've repeatedly accused other people of living in a bubble. Last thoughts: If the Disney trilogy was as successful as Disney would like us to believe, where's the next theatrical film? This is the company that churns out at least two bland Marvel films a year with success. They aren't gonna leave money on the table. They should've put out at least one more by now. Instead they're all still in a vague scripting phase. Secondly, if the Rey Palpatine character is as beloved as has been claimed, why is Baby Yoda, a character in a TV series on a streaming channel not everyone has, the current face of Star Wars? Whatever the case, I'm done arguing it. It's not worth my time or yours. You guys like them, it's a free country, that's your right. I don't, it's a free country that's my right. Are they a success? Time will make the answer obvious, one way or another. Last edited by SnowCat; 02-26-2022 at 07:50 PM.. |

lol No one is debating anything, man. You came asserting certain things were facts. I was just pointing out they're actually only your opinion and your perception of things.
