Like the title states, I give you the number one reason that makes G.I. Joe: The Movie one of the best animated films ever - dialogue. Transformers: The Movie is in the same boat - in my opinion. I pulled the below scene from IMDB, and it's just SOOO good. Cobra Commander's character totally shines through and you can just hear the power from Serpentor's words.
Sure some people have issue with the "reptoid"-like sci-fi tinge to it, it works for me. One could argue that Sgt. Slaughter shouldn't have been such a central character. My argument is that the dialogue is what lifts the movie beyond all that, especially this scene: Serpentor : Blunderers! Fools! We possess power greater than any on Earth! Yet our conquests are stripped from us on every front! Our most dangerous enemy is NOT G.I. Joe but YOUR collective incompetence! Cobra Commander : Hogwash!..... ...Cobra Commander : Unsubstantiated fantasy! Lies, lies, LIES! Quote:
Given the way CC expects their support, I guess it's possible that this happens shortly after the end of S2, and CC's backers simply chickened out in Serpentor's actual presence. Quote:
I always liked that scene, and Pythona's infiltration. This movie is what made me like Sgt. Slaughter. I thought he was a mean bastard until I heard the line "It's time you learned we're a team, Red Dog. We all go home or nobody goes home." Gave me chills the first time I heard it.
I wish we'd have gotten to see the Cobra civil war that seemed to be coming at the end of S2. CC and the rest of Cobra vs Serpentor, Mindbender & maybe the BATS would've been fun. |

I was and am a fan too, and would love a HASLAB 4 pack with Golobulus, Nemesis Enforcer, Guard and Pythona, and Golobulus would come with his pod shell...

Anybody remember when Falcon swatted Jinx on the @$$ and then asked her if she wanted him to "kiss it and make it better?" Lol! That sure wouldn't fly, today!

That's true of many things, especially cartoons. Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, and Richard Pryor couldn't have had careers in today's thin-skinned climate. |
