Beards are not allowed by Army regulations. Only exceptions are for those with a medical profile for razor bumps or other skin irritations caused by shaving. Those individuals are authorized a short, even beard that is not stylized in any way. No more than 1/8 of an inch long.
They are allowed to grow a mustache, however. It can not extend past the corners of the mouth, can not be more than 1/8 of an inch long, and can not be curled up at the ends. It should be tapered to the corners of the mouth. All that being said, this is Army regulation for regular, everyday soldiers. If GI Joe is a diplomatic, career soldier in your mind, he would have to adhere to these standards. If he's spending more time behind a desk at the Pentagon organizing the everyday operations of the Joe team, he would most definitely have to adhere to these regulations. If he is a man of action, as part of a special/delta forces type group that is constantly on the frontlines, or behind enemy lines, these regulations will likely not be strictly enforced. However, when he returns stateside, he will probably need to go back to being within regulations, unless the facial hair is necessary for the next mission. If GI Joe is the leader of his own specialized team that works outside of the Armed Forces, these regulations will have no bearing on him. So, yes, there are many different ways you can think of Joe as a person/brand, and he will have the corresponding facial hair regulations to go along with it. lol |

I am not allowed to watch any military movies with my family. The inaccuracies drive me crazy, and me pointing them out drives my family crazy.

As a military movie? No. As an action flick? Sure. The first Rambo was a scary accurate depiction IMO. The stuff in your pic is just funny to me. Much of the 80's included the infamous shooting from the hip with these supposed highly trained soldiers. That is just maddening. Fine for spray and pray, but not for the accurate head shots that were often portrayed by those movies.

It's precisely because of the absurdity that I love cheesy action flicks like Commando. By the way, feel free to check out my poll. |

I hate any supposedly elite soldier doing automatic fire, unless it's suppression fire. That's just wasting ammo. Sure, it's cheap, but when you're fighting eleventy bajillion bad guys, you need to conserve ammo.

It's GI Joe. Ammo is their world's most plentiful resource.

I get that way with various productions. Mostly remakes or "we're calling ourselves this title/property/character but don't have squat to do with the title/property/character you're thinking of."
