In the UK, #21 was published much later on in the run of reprints in AF weekly. We'd had reprints of the late 20s through some of the 30s before they reprinted #21 and they did a special prologue and an epilogue around the parts.

Sept 15, 2021......Yo Joe!
John Warden and his design team created the Pit Mobile Headquarters twelve years ago, the latest of the Ultimate Wave G.I. Joe playsets during The Rise of Cobra toy line in 2009. What do you think of this massive playset, and how does it compare to the previous vintage ones of equal size?

Interested to know what people thought of this playset since they “don’t make’em like that anymore.” |

This was the "grand" gift found under the Christmas tree that our sons (then ages 5 and 4) had to share in 2009, and it was cute watching them play together with it. At the time, we thought that it was going to be the only way to have a Dennis Quaid movie likeness action figure, the exclusive General Clayton "Hawk" Abernathy (v.3), which looked quite bad actually. We felt duped months later because Hasbro released a General Clayton "Hawk" Abernathy (v.4) single carded action figure, and with a far better sculpt.
But besides the crappy looking action figure, there were two other things that bothered me about this playset. The first was the cardboard inner decorations/furniture, and the second was the low quality of the six pages of decals. Eventually, we were able to purchase a D&J Toys PIT replacement set which eliminated all the cheap cardboard pieces, but I was unable to convince Cobra Stickers to create quality replacement toy labels for this playset (they had always made labels for any G.I. Joe toy I had requested, but this one was the singular exception). I prefer keeping the toy in vehicle mode, because I think it looks impressive, but my kids preferred the nine zones of play when it was opened into headquarters mode. The Command Center came equipped with the most advanced electronic sound effects and phrases ever produced for a G.I. Joe toy, but the other zones such as the Cockpit, Garage/Vault, Main Support Column, Surface Level (with flight deck and expansion bridge), Medical Wing, Urban Combat Training Area, Barracks, and Cave Area (with break-away wall) had more play features than I can mention in a single evening. Whether intended for play or for figure display, this playset had 82 footpegs! It's just too bad that it was so expensive and didn't sell very well, such that many of these units went on deep clearance in stores for 60% off. Hasbro was already planning on significantly retooling this playset for the Pursuit of Cobra line, to create a Cobra Mobile Command Center, but the decision was made to cancel development.

First time seeing that Robot Chicken Joe skit. Thought I had seen them all. Not as funny as there best ones but enjoyable. The Joe Exotic custom was great with Chuckles’ shirt. Loved the gore.
Sometimes when bored I just search Robot Chicken GI Joe YouTube and watch away. |

Where would today's G.I. Joe action figures be if it weren't for the earlier Army men plastic soldiers? The first series of G.I. Joe ARAH action figures were essentially painted, articulated, modernized upscale adaptations of these little plastic soldier figurines, even influencing some figures roles on the team such as a Bazooka Soldier, Mortar Soldier, Flamethrower, Mine Detector, Infantry Trooper, etc.

These little fellas were everywhere in my house and I know my mom hated them. And I always found 1 or 2 chopped up from the mower when I would leave them outside...good times.
