Reading the Marvel UK Action Force weekly comic, they had a couple of letters from American kids who read the comic and mentioned the US name was GI Joe.

If the toys went on sale in 1982, I had to have been aware of them (in catalogues, store aisles) and therefore GI Joe first through the toys. But my recollection is that I didn't buy any until after Return of the Jedi came out and my interest in Star Wars figures started to wane. If the cartoon first aired in September 1983, I wonder if that's what got me into the toys or whether I had dipped my toes in over the summer. With my birthday and Christmas being at the end of year, I suspect it was probably that Fall that I really got into GI Joe. |

I got some hand-me-down's from my older brother, who was starting to age out during the early years of ARAH.

Went to stay with my Grandma in Houston, where toys always hit before when I lived (San Antonio). We went to a toy store and came across Short Fuze, Stalker and Snake Eyes, and she was awesome enough to buy me all three. But it wasn't until the "blue Cobra guys" showed up that I really got interested in the line. Villains are everything.

I saw the GIJoe Breaker/RAM commercial. Then from there, I found out there was a GIJoe comic.

My mom rented The Revenge Of Cobra on VHS probably to keep me and my brother occupied and I didn't see the movie all the way as I wasn't into G.I.Joe yet.
But it became official in the summer of '85 when Revenge Of Cobra was airing daily and the cast of colorful characters hooked me in. |

Man I remember renting the Revenge of Cobra VHS tapes at Albertson's grocery stores, many times. Such nostalgia for that mini-series, still my favorite.

LoL. Our local video store was owned and run by family friends and they used to call to ask me to return MASS once a month. I'd return it and take it back out.

Ahhhhhhh that's probably why I got Breaker first. Could never figure out why I chose the guy with no weapon as my first purchase.
