I think it was a combination of me seeing the recent MASS Device mini-series on tv in September '83, the toy ads and comic books ads that were constantly played on tv and maybe friends having some of the toys in my first year in school that same fall that did it. I asked for GI Joe that xmas and got a bunch of my first Joes for Christmas that year (Cobra Trooper, Cobra Officer, Cobra Commander, the HISS, the MOBAT and Tripwire).
A month later the following January in '84 my brother had also gotten Destro, Major Bludd, Gung-Ho, Torpedo and the Skystriker and I had also gotten Snow Job. We were both hooked at that point and would go on to eventually get tons of Joe figures for the next 5 years. The '84 Wave III series was the first one that I was able to get as soon as it came out, which made that year very special for my brother and I.

I remember watching the Sunbow cartoon on weekday afternoons following school. Which in turn sparked my interest in the action figures, ect. That was my introduction. Don't believe I ever read any of the Marvel comics until I found a stack of back issues at a local antique/flea market store somewhere around 1989-1990.
The DIC animated series, and especially the Marvel comics pretty much kept my interest going through Turtlemania that was very much going on during the early 1990's. I also remember thinking how Larry Hama/Marvel integrated/reintroduced the Transformers for the short lived "Generation 2" within the GI Joe comic book being pretty cool. |

I must of saw the toy commercial because the first issue of the comic I had was #2. I got Snake-Eyes and Stalker the same day at Bradlees and I didn't know Snake-eyes didn't talk yet.
