Anyway, IMO this is one of those questions that probably comes down to: Shooter, Crosshair, Barrel Roll and Low-Light are probably superior in terms of sharpshooting skills compared to other Joes as they are Marksmanship-oriented above all else, unlike Scarlett and Snow Job who are (likely) "Sniper Qualified" but it's not their primary job, and which one "wins" may literally depend on which way the wind is blowing that day. Though the "non-specialist" Snipers are all probably good enough to get the job done most days. There are also probably a lot of other Joes who are "Sniper Qualified" (or at least there are several others who have come with sniper rifles as accessories even if it's not listed as a specialty per se). I think he is supposed to be a designated marksmen and not a sniper, but Crosshairs. I love his design, and how well he can fit in with Vintage figures.

So it's always something like "Designated Marksman" or "Sharpshooter" until relatively recently. As for Crosshair, I mean come on...he comes with a sniper rifle and a ghillie suit, it doesn't get much more clearly implied than that. |

According to their first filecards:
Shooter - Marksman (although her filecard describe exactly what a sniper does) Low Light - Night Spotter (he just like to watch...at night...) Cross Hair - Infiltrator/Sniper Barrel Roll - High Altitude Sniper Hollow Point - Range Officer (more of an instructor, because those disks on his arms and legs would get in the way in the field) As mentioned before, several Joes are "Marksmanship Instructors", but they're not designated snipers. So technically, the Joes only have 2 snipers: Cross Hair and Barrel Roll. (unless I'm forgetting someone) |

I think there are clearly some characters that are meant to be snipers whether they're directly called that or not. IE "Marksman". Though I agree that "Marksmanship Instructors" are definitely not necessarily snipers. Most Marksmanship Instructors are teaching regular-range marksmanship and are rarely sniper qualified. In Snow Job's case, the targets in the Olympic Biathlon are only at 50m distance. That's quite short-range by military standards. Though in his original timeframe he might have been winning Biathlon medals Pre-1978 which would mean they were 150m targets, but that's still well within "standard" rifle ranges for the military. I think Snow Job is really the first Joe sniper. Shooter was retconned so I don't truly consider her to be the first. It may not say sniper on SJ's file card but I think it can easily be inferred. Besides, what else is a Joe going to do on top of a snowcapped mountain if not lie low and pop caps in Snow Serpents' asses all day.
