You get the satisfaction of knowing your hard work and tax dollars made those relief checks and continued unemployment benefits possible. Hopefully that helps.

I just pretend that all of my tax money goes to the portion that pays for the VA hospitals. It’s the only way that I can keep going.

I feel everyone's pain too. My workplace is trying to hire upwards of 140 people as well. Our work volume has actually exploded over the past year and a half, and it's difficult to keep up with it all. We have been working mandatory overtime every day for months, and they have been offering 6th day $200 incentives to come in and work 8 hours extra on a weekend day(plus the overtime pay). I've been working 60 hour work weeks for a while now. They just raised the base pay to $20 an hour and gave everyone a $2 per hour raise, plus $500 referral bonuses to try and hire and retain more people. Sure, job security, and I've been working from home for over a year now, but I'm tired lol...

The resort where I work is desperate for workers as well. I imagine we'll stay that way for a long time, unfortunately. We're comping a lot of meals in the restaurants because the food is taking so long to go out during peak times. The new hires we have are terrible. You can hardly even get onto them because you don't dare want to make them quit.
I don't think the covid relief is solely to blame though (although it is definitely a large contributor). Down here, these resorts laid off 1,000's of workers. Some of those workers had been employed for decades. And during those first few months of the pandemic, the Florida unemployment system was a damn joke! Some folks went months here without a dime coming in. Now, after laying them off for 6-10 months, these resorts want to say "come on back now". And the laid off workers are responding with a middle finger....and I understand it. A lot of these service industry jobs offer zero PTO or sick days, no paid holidays, no time and half for working holidays, no 401k, not even a guaranteed 40 hours a week to work. So, I don't really blame some of them if they're not dying to go back.

Just got home and cleaned up. Been reading everyone's responses. I'm sorry to hear that I'm not alone in this situation. I feel for you brothers and sisters.
Next, someone PMed me about the plant. For some reason I can't read it. So, in an effort not to look like a flake, I going to break protocol. I work at Hershey Robinson. In Robinson Illinois. You can check out jobs on indeed, and I believe Hershey's.com. The job's not all bad, I'm just going through some burnout. Working 50 to 72 hours a week does that to a man. I have a bad case of the"it used to be's". Anyone else feel the trucker shortage as well? We got trailers full of stuff waiting to be picked up. I want to thank you for all of the responses. |
