Without looking everything up to get a fresh take with my current sensibilities - Battle Force 2000 is why I quit collecting GI Joe.
When they were coming out I was desperate to get them. I remember my Papaw driving me all over Wilmington, NC trying to find them. I can't recall how I even knew they were a thing - comic book ads, maybe? - but I knew the figures were out and I NEEDED them. We were in Service Merchandise when I happened to talk to another kid who had found them at a gas station called Fast Fare, of all places. Papaw didn't believe him, but we drove there anyway. Sure enough, they had the figures right in the front of the store on a spinner. They were overpriced, but I had enough to buy maybe two. Eventually I got most of the figures and all of the vehicles and was just disappointed with all of it. For whatever reason the figures didn't feel like Joe to me and the vehicles felt like cheap knockoffs that weren't very impressive on their own and were even less so when put together to make the fortress. That's my memory of the line at the time. I might feel differently if I sat down with them now. |

the last thing i got from service merchandise was the potf2 rancor. i pretty much only ever bought star wars figures from there even though that store was one of my favorite places to shop at when i was a kid.

I didn't like these figures very much when they came out. I was intrigued by the vehicles all linking up, but after playing with a few and trying it out, it was clearly a gimmick and not very well thought out. Fast forward to now, and I think my nostalgia glasses have softened my thoughts on these guys. I like the figures more. At least three of them I wouldn't be ashamed to show off. The vehicles still aren't the best. I like the jet though.

It's also possible that they all had one and we just didn't use it. My clearest Service Merchandise memory is that it was where I found the WHALE. I didn't have enough money to cover tax and my dad was all set to make it a teachable moment. Fortunately Mom came along with a dirty look for Dad and a couple extra bucks for me. |

Couldn't stand them. When I got Knockdown (and later Dee Jay) as a gift, I was like "what the f*** is this???". Whenever I played with friends, those guys were always among the last two figures chosen.
I did also get Maverick and he was a bit more popular and looked a little better. Never had any of the vehicles. My parents only ever bought me vehicles I specifically asked for. |

Never cared for BF2000. I hope Hasbro doesn't waste any Classified slots on them either.
