Agree that the vehicles' lack of interlocking parts was a disappointment, and felt like Hasbro really half-assed it.
The Vector is nice jet, but the other vehicles looked like they should have just been painted beige and brown to be released as Oktober Guard vehicles. Even the Vector would have been better in black/red/gold as an Iron Grenadiers jet, which they never had. All of the figures, especially Knock-Down, had too much "zazzle". Dodger did borrow from Aliens as others have pointed out, to the point of being a ripoff. |

In the U.K., BF2000 were blended into the main line without any distinguishing and sold individually - so I never knew they were a special team till adulthood!
These are actually some of my favourite figures (Dodger, Blaster) - though I think we all can agree that DeeJay is terrible.. and was an absolute peg warmer here! |

I dunno but I think BF2000 borrowed some concepts/looks from old school black and white comics Warren Publishing? at least some inspiration...in particular Eerie Magazines hero "Hunter" the look in specific the helmet of Hunter alone could fit right in Bf2000, and by chance I was checking out a few issues featuring Hunter and one of the bad? demons? in the issue was named Darklon.

Overall, I was not really interested in the team or their vehicles growing up. When I started reading the comics, I found out that everyone but Dodger had died in Trucial Abysmia. That made me want to learn more about the characters.
My first Battle Force 2000 action figure was the Funskool release of Blaster in the early 2000s. Last year I received most of the team members loose as part of a bigger collection and they're nice. I was disappointed when I saw formbx257's reviews about how the Future Fortress doesn't really connect together. I am glad the collector's club released them in 2017 as modern era figures and honored them. But they're still not must-have characters for me. |

I think the lack of cartoon support badly hurt the perception of the subteam - they fell into the 1987 "gap" between production companies.
I remember being annoyed that the figures and vehicles were sold separately. That was, I think, the first time that dedicated vehicle drivers were sold separately from their rides, and as a kid used to getting them for free that stunk. I think I only ever had the Vector, Dominator, and Vindicator. The Dominator is one of my favourite Joe vehicles of all time, with a ton of play value. And even if you didn't have the entire team for the build-a-fortress, you could jam other toylines' stuff in there to make your own, which was pretty neat (or use other Joe vehicles - I think I had the Coastal Defender stuck in mine at one point). |

As a concept for sub teams, they were supposed to counter the Iron Grenadiers. I really dislike Knockdown's body sculpt: bulky and just not part of a future military esthetic. I was able to score all the two-figure carded figures in excellent condition. Now I have them loose and carded/momc.
I truly appreciate the subteams, but my least favorite is the Sky Patrol figures.

I felt battleforce 2000 should have been Space Joes..It would have made soooooo much more sense..them being carted around on the defiant. especially when Dodger was an Aliens ripoff

I really wish IDW would do a "Sunbow Season 3" type of series based on 87 (a la how companies have done continuations of Buffy and Firefly, to say nothing of the Joe continuation by Larry). It's not just BF2000 - characters like Crazylegs, Outback, Fast Draw and Sneak Peak never got 'toon characterisations of any note (unless I'm forgetting stuff from the DIC era, but I don't think so).
It's astonishing that three of the biggest ticket items in Joe history - the Defiant, the Mobile Command Center, and BattleForce 2000 - all got shoved out there in 1987 with no cartoon marketing support. You'd think that with the money Hasbro was spending on those concepts they'd had built the movie around them, but for whatever reason the timing just didn't line up. |

Also (and maybe this is a me only thing given my affection for the franchise), BF2000 being out there at the same time as Captain Power wasn't great. Why buy a half-assed future soldiers concept when there's a full-on one loaded with gimmicks a couple pegs over?
