There's some mixed feelings regarding Battle Force 2000 in my household... I was already out of G.I. Joe by 1988, so I have no childhood memories of them, but I did introduce them to my children when they were age 5 or 6, and they loved the figures and the vehicles! Maybe not building the Future Fortress so much, but they did enjoy all other aspects of those toys, so that made me happy to see them having so much fun.
Some things which I liked about them were the science fiction elements of their weaponry, and the color pattern of their vehicles. They were all a group of Army sergeants who met at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, and answered to a fine leader (Dodger/SFC Renwick). Including an Air Force captain/test pilot (Maverick) to the roster just made the team more interesting and exciting. Even the very short animated television commerical featuring the team looked decent. The loss of that team in the Marvel comics just made their service and sacrifice feel more significant. It's good that Larry Hama would do that, and that Hasbro would allow it. The year 1988 introduced some really strange characters into the ARAH collection, and the BF 2000 team was overshadowed by another new team which was also introduced that year, the Iron Grenadiers. In fact, I would say that the Iron Grenadiers were so well liked that the BF 2000 team had to take a back seat to them and was largely forgotten. Shortly after the following year (1989) when Dee-Jay and the Pulverizer were added to the team, it was possibly already becoming clear that BF 2000 was done. Maybe the interest just wasn't there anymore? I really do miss attending those Fun Publication GIJCC conventions, and they used to always have us fill out an attendee survey during the weekend, which we would do thoughfully every time. My little boys would pester me to no end every year to write that we wanted them to make a Battle Force 2000 boxed set. I would try to explain to my sons that the Club would never be able to make that set happen with the existing parts, but I would request it anyways just to make the kids happy. Then one morning in 2017, when the announcement was made regarding the Force of Battle convention boxed set theme, my kids were dancing with joy. Once again, Battle Force 2000 made me happy, seeing my children having so much fun.

I would 100% like to see a Classified interpretation of the BF2000 characters, if the line ever gets that deep. Seems like a lot of potential coolness there.

As a kid, I thought they were cool. Though I was bummed the vehicles didn't come with figures.
In retrospect, they were superfluous. G.I. Joe was already the military of the future. |

Battle Force 2000, Cobra-La, and Slaughter's Mauraders all came out in 1987 and they convinced me G.I. Joe wasn't for me any more.
Well, that and them issuing new vehicles that were just repaints of old vehicles. I felt like they thought I was dumb or something. Especially when the vehicle was originally one of the other team's vehicles. "Check out this cool new GI Joe plane we just came out with!" "Um, that's a repainted cobra Rattler, and you just think I'm dumb and will buy anything." I didn't even have a rattler, but it just felt like they were making cheap knock-offs of thier own stuff. I kept reading the comics for a few more years but was done with the toys. I was also kind of aging out anyway so it probably would have happened no matter what they released.

For that reason, I can certainly understand why some say they imagine Battle Force 2000 was 1987, while others remember it more accurately as 1988.

I wasn't remembering I was going by 3djoes.com. My memory is about as worthless as it gets and I never rely on it for anything. But I totally believe you.

YES. I love BF2000 but I think I like the concept of eclectic sub-teams in general.

Also, Hasbro did at least try to explain the team switching in the TV commercials. |
