So, Hasbro reported their first quarter earnings reported $112 million loss in the first quarter of 2018. Mattel is going to be reporting first quarter on Thursday, in which they too are expected report a fairly large loss (but not as bad as Hasbro)
Does the failure of TRU, lackluster sells of Star Wars and Transformers going to spur another round of merger talks? Will Infinity War and Jurassic World lines make Q2 numbers look much better? Just starting a tread for discussion...what does the group think? |

I am not sure if either company would be willing to bring back talks in the troubled state the Toy industry is in. Like I said in the Hasbro thread. This doesn't look good for anyone at the moment and if the 2nd quarter is just as bad you can expect share holders to start dropping thier stocks and so the snow ball effect will continue.

Well, last year's Star Wars and Transformers movies were the two worst movies of the year in my book, so I am not surprised by a net loss. As to whether Infinity War and Jurassic World 2 will do better, it depends. Based on the latest trailer, JW2 looks like a loser, but as long as the protagonists aren't millennial tweens, it won't be as bad as The Last Jedi or The Last Knight and won't have me giving up in less than 20 minutes for lack of enjoyment and extreme implausibility of attitudes and plots that break any chance at suspension of disbelief.

Don’t forget Solo releases this year as well featuring the vintage styled carded figures. They seem to be selling well everywhere I have been.

I'm pretty sure the first quarter is always a bit disappointing. It's simply not a toy buying time of the year.
Throw in the collapse of TRU and old hold off "the sky is falling" panic for a bit. |

Unfortunately I think that is how these things go though. It's like the Health Care exchanges or the stock market. As soon as the first one jumps ship or hits the panic button, the rest want to drop their shares or unload their inventory so they are not the last ones holding the bag. How are Mattel's sales doing? If they are feeling ripple effects from the Toys'R'Us closures that will reflect in their earning statements too. However if they are doing well they might push harder moving forward.
Take it back Mattel is sucking too. They are probably praying for the Hasbro buy out. https://www.investopedia.com/news/ta...el-and-hasbro/ Hasbro needs its own store. It has become the Amazon of the toy industry and half it's shit is sitting in Toysrus. Verdict : The Sky is falling but I think I see an awesome little Rainbow on the other side
