With all due respect, get off of the "True Fan" soap box. I'm a real fan that has been collecting since 1982. Many people probably are bigger fans than you, have more toys than you and have supported the line more than you.
Sense of entitlement = FAIL "ZOMG TRUE FANZ!" are getting a new rage, new battle stations, a snow cat.... As for realistic figures...Snow Job & others are a perfect fit. Fans received what they wanted via the 25th...but of course, it's never enough. Not really sure how many times Hasbro had to say "HEY! WE'RE SWITCHING GEARS SOON!".... But oh well...I guess us "Fake Fans" will look forward to what's on the horizon while the "REAL FANS" can collect whatever eBay has to offer in relation to ARAH. |

There are many kinds of fans on here, and room for all of us with out "calling folks out". There are army builders, MOC collectors, loose collectors, and selective buyers. There are customizers, and "realistic" collectors (BBI vehicles with only realistic joe figures). From what I am seeing, Hasbro is really trying to reach out to everyone, which is great for both them and us.

To put things in the best way for all, collect what you like, its your money. What sometimes gets me, why post negative, if you dont like it dont waste the time and energy on it at all.
Posting is ment for sharing what we do like and have in common. Negative posts about how bad something sucks, well it just leads to more negativity in general. I am a fan and always have been since about 1975. I just like toys, and really like fresh takes on stuff. The same old same done over and over just makes me bored. I like classic figures updates, and add some new twists, keeps fresh. As for the real fan verses everybody else, I just read that, and pass it right on by. There are all facet's of the hobby, some like the toy itself, some like the art and package, some like just the story, find what you like and just spend the energy on that. Me, I like customs, and the 25th roc line is going to be making me happy for a good long time. The fact I make parts for the toys as well, I know how much work goes into making them, and going into it knowing most wont be happy is all part of it. There is no making All happy, so just make your self happy and enjoy what you like. Dave Last edited by SlayerDave; 08-15-2009 at 04:54 PM.. |

The "True fan" expression, and many of the people who use it as some kind of badge of superiority, makes me boggle.
Is a 'true fan' someone who dismisses (usually with a bizarre sense of pride) anything that came after 1987? Is a 'true fan' someone who embraces the spirit of GI JOE and appreciates it in different forms? Is someone who gets into Joe as a result of the film not a 'true fan'? Or maybe there's no such thing. You're either either a Joe fan or not - You accept which aspects of Joe you like and which you don't, and that choice will be different for everybody. A person creating some ludicrous, nebulous title to make them feel 'more' of a fan than someone else (ergo making their opinion more 'valid', of course!) is destined to create division and argument. ...just in my opinion of course. I am a true fan, that is I am a fan who likes GI Joe in any incarnation it may show up in. All fans are true fans, that is what makes this toy line so much fun. Any one from the early 60's to today who have a love for these plastic toys are all fans. Never forget that GI Joe started as a 12 inch doll line and what we have today is nothing close to that. My ARAH 3 and 3/4th toys are not as true fan as vintage 12 inch GI Joe dolls are but my stuff means a heck of a lot more to me than any 12 inch doll could ever do.

I get what your saying. But consider this. How many 25th figures are you missing to ''complete'' your collection? 10? 20? 30? In just two short years, Hasbro managed to give us most of the 82-87 figures. How many more years could they have gone on like that? If they mix in alot of repaints and fraken-joes, maybe 1 or 2 years. Then what?
The 25th format had run it's course. It was selling well, but I'm willing to bet that ROC will outsell it by miles. More importantly, it will create a new fanbase: kids. This is the key to continue to grow the Joe brand. A few years ago, I was into model trains. Everytime I went to shows, the people that were showing off their dioramas - the people that actually played with/built/customized model trains as a hobby - they all had grey hair. They were all in their 60s or 70s. They are as passionate about their hobby as we are about ours, but they have nobody to pass the legacy over to. In a few years, model trains, as a hobby, will be extinct in my neck of the woods because it does not appeal to most kids. The proof is in the stores. Around here, if you want to get into model trains, there are only a few very specialised stores you can go to. None of the major or medium-sized retailers bother to stock trains since kids don't play with them. I, for one, don't want that to happen to Joe. Constant re-invention is the only way to survive. Nostalgia is nice, but it doesn't grow brands and is not a viable long-term business model. OB |

I bought a boot leg copy of the entire series from agape toons.
It wasn't that bad. Do you think Sgt. Stone is an homage to Lt. Stone? "We're surrounded on all sides by evil... and that's how we like it... GI Joe Extreme!" |

Wow, I didn't know there was the same problem in G.I. Joe that there is in Transformers. The GEEWUNNERS wanted more G1 stuff so they got Classics, then they hated the 07' movie and the Animated stuff, then they were pissed so they got Universe but that wasn't good enough them and now the fanbase is split up with people being either Die hard G1 fans, just Movie fans or fans of all versions like me. But we all have to realize at the end of the day we are all acting like a bunch of freaking retards fighting about how our collective Childhoods have somehow been raped and in reality that our money only makes up about 10%(if even). Hasbro doesn't even have to give us things like Universe or 25th anniv. they do it because they are being gracious. In short I'm trying to say to both our beloved franchises "stop bitching and buy the freaking toys".
